Anyone know if K&N makes a filter charger intake system for the 6 cylinder? I have seen them, but for the life of me cannot find out if they have them for the benz.
Also aside from renntech, anyone know of "increased air" system for this engine? I'm getting discouraged that there isn't much performance stuff for this car. |

Man Let Me Tell You
I have one for our 95 E320 and it took for evvvvvvvvvvvvvver to recieve. I ordered it from http://www.wrenchead.com and got a great price with free shiping ($35). But the damn thing took 4 months to get to my door.
I would call every now and then to check up on it and they said that it hade to be special ordered from England! Wait a second K airfilters are manufactured in Calafornia, so why was it ordered from England. The only thing that I could think of is that it is a European (Mercedes) make so they sent them to England for distrubution. But I don't know the real reason. Anyway I think you should call them up (wrenchead) and ask if they have it in stock. Maybe mine was the first ever ordered form them. If they don't you could ask http://www.CarParts.com but they may be a bit more expensive. Or you could go to Auto Zone or some parts store that matches prices and give them a print out of the price and they will order one in for you at the same or better price. You know the weird thing is that I order 2 for the E420 and they came in within a week and a half, I was expecting at lest 3 months for those. Let me know if this helps.

you sure what you got for your 320 is not just the regular k&n filter for about $50? Cause for your 420 the only thing you can get is 2 drop in k&n filters.
I can't seem to make any sense of the wrenchead site. How did you buy anything from them? What I'm talking about is the k&n setup that replaces your air box. |

I am talking about the drop in one it was $35.
I thought about the cone one but then the car would be takeing in hot air from right next to the motor. As far as I know there is no "New" intake for this car. You can try to fabericate on your self (thats what I thought of doing) take the air box off at that felx tube and attach one there.

that's what I thought. I will just leave it as is with the dropin for now till someone comes up with an idea. Possibly running some tubing down below to an opening in the front grill for some cold air? who knows, not sure if that will screw up the sensor.
thanks for the feedback. |

check the don swinford page.
http://home.earthlink.net/~asherson/Don/Mercedes_Ram-Air/mercedes_ram-air.html This is his version of a secondary intake. Though I believe he has since done some minor changes to it. Alon

Yes, that's exactly what I was talking about. I have a buddy that did almost similar thing to his C36 and worked great! I just don't know how my car would react to such a mod.

Wrenchead.com
NikoE320 and Subman asked about ordering from Wrenchead (WH).
I ordered a pair of K&N filters for my S500. They were in stock and went out within one day. Got a tracking number from UPS. Was scheduled to deliver on Tuesday. Come Monday, a box from WH arrives with the two filters and the cleaner. Great service. Come Tuesday, another box from WH arrives. This time I refuse it. Then, as a courtesy, I sent them an e-mail explaining what happened. Got a detailed letter back saying that only one was sent and YOU GUESSED IT, they were sorry that I didn't like the product. Another email from me saying "I GOT IT ALREADY!" Next day (or so) got a credit on the CC for full price. I called and tried to explain what happened but to no avail. Got a set of free K&N filters plus cleaner. |

Your right Niko, the ram cold air intake did work great with noticable gains in performance. Once in a while the check engine light would come on requiring a reset of the ecu to clear it.
Only negative thing about that install was...I removed the passenger side foglight to create a ram air effect into the intake. Bad decision, while it did create the desired ram air effect, I hit a large puddle and it created a vacume cleaner effect and sucked up a lot of water into the engine. No harm done, but had to pull off the road and wait about 15 minutes or so, also removed the tubing and drained out some water. I would recommend if you go this route, to drop the filter behind the front bumper and keep it away from any possible direct source of water ingestion. It will still pull quite allot of cold air and will give you the performance increase you are looking for. Here is the URL for the install of the cold air intake. (be patient, experienceing DSL problems so it takes a bit to load) http://www.2phast.com/porsche/c36html.html |

Is the air really that much colder when sucked from behind the headlight (stock) vs. down low in the bumper? My checks with a thermometer did not show any, esp. at speed (65 mph).
I bet what's really keeping the temperature high is having the airbox right next to to the exhaust manifolds and the viscous fan which blow hot air and "bakes" the airbox. What I did was create a heat-shield that surrounds the airbox and keeps the hot-air away from the fan. Also, remove the rubber-strip between the lower-headlight panel and the bumper for a better ram-air affect. If you can, have the lower-headlight panel louvered or punched out and screened for even better breathing and ram-air. Search for the user "ItalianBenz" and you'll see what he did to the lower-headlight panel. Good luck, :-) neil |

I have always thought it would be neat if there was a "louvered" hood available with an air box that would match up with the openings.
