1994 E320 Brake upgrade
I need new rotors and I found a pair of new 92/93 500E Front and Rear cross-drilled rotors. They list them in inches (dumb) at 11 13/16 x 1 13/16 for the fronts and 10 61/64 X 2 1/4 rear with a 112mm lug pattern
I think (correct me if my math is wrong) but this corresponds to 300.0375 X 46.0375 front and 278.209 X 57.15 rear Can I swap out my rotors for these without modification? If not what else would I need to do

They will fit but you will need the SL/500E calipers to match them. I think the 500Es are 320 or 300mm front depending on year and 280 rear.
Dave (gsxr) has done an excellent compilation of OE brake parts that is tremendous help in switching parts around to different w124s, etc....search for it; if I find it I'll post the link to it also. |

You can't just swap rotors - you need to swap calipers also. The stock E320 brakes are decent size, if power output is normal. I'd consider getting new rotors (maybe drilled, if you want) and upgrading to Porterfield R4-S pads.
Upgrading to 500E brakes will be expensive (plan on almost $1000 by the time you buy used calipers, new rotors, new pads, etc etc) and will also require 16-inch wheels to clear the larger front calipers, so your spare tire won't fit either. Early USA 500E's had 300 front, 278 rear. Late USA 500E's (and all E500's) have 320 front, 278 rear. Non-US models have slightly different sizes. Full details are in my spreadsheet here: http://www.w124performance.com/images/W124_brakes/ |

I recently put zimmerman crossdrilled rotors with ceramic pads on my 300ce. they squeek a bit when cool, but the stopping power is tremendouis in compariuson to the stock units on my 300ce before.
I don;t mind the squeeking when cold, the grip of the pads on the rotors more than makes up for it. But if you prefer oem, can;t go wrong with original ate rotors and oem pads. But gsxr is very knowledgable about these cars, and if he makes a recommendation, I would trust what he says. My ceramic brake pads and cross drilled rotors all around cost me around $500.00 and I bought them from phil at the fastlane on this site. Alon
