About this steering thing...
Just for clarification- Have you definitely made sure the power steering fluid is topped off? I read the responses here and didn't see that you topped it off and its effect, if anything. I've had the exact same problem and that was the simple solution. Also, does it seem to be louder, more noticeable, when the weather is colder vs. warmer? That's another indication that it would probably be the fluid level. Just trying to save you some money- please don't think I'm mocking you or anything!

Are you beginning to wonder about the condition of your car as it was represented prior to your purchase?
There appears to be an unusual host of bugs with yours ... with such low low miles.... and now a possible cooling issue...any recourse back to the seller? I have an e500 that is a near twin (mileage-wise) to yours with the exception that it is a '94 (black pearl on black). I just turned 35,000 miles this weekend, so naturally I'm interested your ordeal. Sorry to hear about the bugs...maybe it would be wise to turn the car over to the competent dealer for a complete inspection (like Starmark on engine, electrical, transmission, brakes, etc.) to work out the bugs prior to more mods? Good luck. -fad |

The bugs have been minor and the fixes have been cheap so far. I guess I sort of expected this from an 8 year old vehicle. The engine compression tested well, and the hydraulic suspension have no problems. Nothing really alarming really.
At the end of the day, this is still the best riding/driving/handling car in the (extended) stable (including parents' and siblings' vehicles) and a weekend of two in the shop would surely get it back up to spec. I wouldn't sell it back to the seller even if he paid me a premium for it! My only problem is that there is no such thing as a Starmark in this country! I'm totally with you on not wanting to part with the E500.
I purchased my Starmark E500 from the same MBZ dealer that sold me a pristine Starmark E320 Coupe. Needless to say, I'm a walking ad for Starmark- - received $10,000+ worth of work over the past 2.5 years on the coupe: 24 valves & lifters (twice), head gasket, rear glass, transmission mod, front suspension, window regulator, sunroof rebuild, a/c work, aux fan work once a year, front cluster work, and other misc items. I'm fortunate that Starmark will give me peace of mind (and wallet) for major items on the E500 for the next 3 years. Good luck and keep us updated with your progress. -fad |

Also, Temp Sensor, Temp Sender and Intake Air Sensor were all replaced. Car runs beautifully now. The vehicle's in the shop right now having the new lights and hood installed. The hood has to be painted to match the rest of the body. Had all dings removed (paintless dent removal) and am having the entire car clearcoated. Had my "polished" Evo IIs painted silver as well. The 1st gear start (from Satish) and ASR defeat switch (Renntech) are also being installed. Will post pics when everything's done (~2 weeks or so)

Roas,
DTC #5 is "Exhaust gas recirculation inoperative". Check my page, menu #5 for Diag Module codes. Pretty sure that there are the same.
Clean/replace the EGR valve paying attention of the passage way clogged with 'stuff'. See Steve's article in DIY section for picture. Also check the switchover valve the drives the EGR valve. A loose vacuum line will cause the CE light. |

Now if I can muster the energy to start turning some wrenches this weekend? |
