Was flicking through some webpages when I came across this thing in the tips&tricks section of some german doods website http://www.mercedes124.de/
Apparently they sell this thing, it can facelift your pre-93 W124 without having to buy the whole hood. Maybe someone from Europe can confirm this. If its true I will be sourcing it out

Found the company.

they sell that at tuningzubehor.com as well. If you get their catalog its in there.

I calculated the costs, and at roughly $600 plus shipping for the surround witht he grille insert, plus welding, prep, sanding, and painting, you are still looking at around $1000 to get it installed and done.

For the same price, you could probably find a hood at a junkyard, and have it painted and all.

But it is a very cool modification to do. The only problem is the welding, filling, sanding, and painting. That much work into the item to me is kind of a waste if a complete hood is easily obtainable. And if cost is similar.

Alon,
Yeah, I was just working out the cost too and you're about right. Maybe if I can get someone to carry one back for me from Europe? The filling in, welding and of course painting is the real killer. But it was nice to dream fro awhile!!

Hello everyone.

Yeah, I agree with Eraser-X guys A brand new hood ( 94-95 ) cost is like 450 to 500 dollars max at the local dealer. Plus a pain job (around 200 dollars), and you can probabaly sell your hood for 50 bucks to a MB savage yard.

Question for Eraser-X guys:
Do you know where to sell the hood ? I got one sitting in the garage.
Thank you for your time.

It is true and I have seen it before (I wanted to get a C class look on my previous 190, but didn't do this). The welded-on frame looks good as soon as it is comes from the repainter, but since the frame is not half as solid/strong as the OEM frame on the MB hoods it starts to crack after a while (the frame can hardly stand the forces of closing the hood).

It is not worth the costs!

greetingz,

Thanks Mbenz, I figured as much! The hood on these cars take some serious abuse when being shut by amateurs (local mechanics & friends for example) and I could just picture what you say happening. Not worth the expense, i'd by the hood complete instead.
