The unit doesn't work in 4 nor 6 cylinder vehicles because the kickdown solenoid cannot activate 1st gear with the vehicle at idle speed (due to lower system pressure compared to the V8 and V12 transmissions). If you do not have a "B" switch in your shift gate then it won't work.
V8/V12 transmissions will have: P-R-N-D-3-2-B 4/5/6 Cylinder Transmissions will have: P-R-N-D-3-2 |

So is there a way any of the I6 cars can be setup accordingly?

Ah, just remembered... my SDL starts in first. Only has a shifter gate to 2.
From my memory the shift governor is in the tailshaft, so is it possible to put an SDL valve body into the 300sel

all Mercedes TURBO diesels start in 1st gear due to design of the valve body. In some cases, you can swap valve bodies but you must swap the upper plate as well.
After 1992, MBs with 103 engines started in 1st gear as well. However, these vehicles start in 1st by hydraulic design and not by solenoid (electric) design. |

Well the 617 Turbo cars I've driven idle in 2nd but start in first, any idea why? Also I have some 380SE Euro VBs that are first gear start if those could potentially work. Upper plate... the separator plate? The shifting action can't be much different between the 2nd gear start and 1st gear start, but is the main, unassembled valve body the same? I have no problem taking a VB apart to modify, I've installed countless TransGo valve body kits over the years with no issues. If it's trade secret, that's fine... do you offer valve bodies on an exchange basis? I'm not trying to make a buck off this, I want my stuff to drive better and let everyone else have the information available to them if they wanted to perform this modification themselves. Sorry for the questions, just no one really seems to have much of an answer aside from you.
