Hey, check out that link from this site, I'm new to this board and site, I have to say, this is one of the best forums I have every seen, I have found so much info on Mercedes and for my 87 300E. I notice A LOT of people have that car, my car is sort of silver in colour. Anyway, this link says the car does 0-60 in 8.3secs! That is pretty good, don't you think? A lot of those Honda's you seee suped up can't even do that, for a fact, I know my friends Integra can only do 0-60 in about 10.3 secs, I timed it, maybe not accurate, but still it was around 10 secs. anyway, I'm picking up a K and N filter, lets see what it does. |

okay, I forgot to mention, that my friend's integra is a 1997 Integra SE, and it's automatic, that is the reason for slow time. It's only mildly modified, it has a Ractive Intake and Exhaust. Cheap company, that is probably why you never heard of it.

A Cream Puff
Just picked up a 300E today. It's an 86 with 55000 miles on it. Clean, clean, clean. Lived in a garage all its life.

using a Gtech PRO, my 1992 300E 4MATIC did the following #s on 2 runs:
Run 1 0-60 8.45sec 1/4mi 16.76 @ 90.1mph Run 2 0-60 8.28sec 1/4mi 16.45 @ 88.6mph not too shabby for 132,000 miles ! The temp was 91, the gas tank was full, and the shifter was in D. Bill |

Wouldn't Your time slightly differ if you start in second gear and worked your way up shifting as if it was a stick? From my knowlegde I feel a lot of difference in take off when I shift than to just leave it in "d". If yours is hitting 16 secs imagine what I can do with my mods!!

I dont think the times would have differed from starting in 2 and shifting. The car takes off in 1st gear almost every time (unless throttle input is VERY light) and by placing it in D, I eliminate the chance of driver(my) error in shifting. The car was way in the redline every shift. I also had to write down my times with an inkpen on my left hand while driving because I forgot to bring some paper along..... D was definely the best choice !
I'd like to see your times with your mods as comparison, that would be cool. As I alter my car, I'll continue to time it to see if the cost was worth the benefit. My 1st mod should be removing the center muffler... I'll post after I get it done Bill |

91+ 300Es had first gear start so shifting doesn't matter.
Also, if he had tires that weren't too big (215/55 is too big, 205/55 is proper), it would be even faster.

David, can you tell me more about your custom made intake. I want to do something to my ride to complement the exhuast. Does the intake system make any noise at all?

Sounds nice it gives it sort of a growl when you step on it.
Intake: -I Got 90 a degree rubber elbow that fit over throttle body and attached with hose clamp 6" I.D. I think -attached about 12" long peice of PVC to the other end and secured that with hose clamp -I then Got a peice of PVC hat was about 2" I.D. bigger than a K and N cone filter whith a cap for each end -I cut a hole in one cap the same size as the PVC pipe and then slid it over the pipe so about 3" went through the cap -I then used Epoxy to adhere them together -I had to get a PVC reducer to mate to the cone filter Then attach that with a hose clamp -Then put the Huge peice of PVC around that and put the other cap on -Get a peice of PVC that fits into the hose from the old intake scoop by the radiator 3" O.D. I think -Then cut a hole in the other cap the same size as this and bond it to the small pipe with epoxy - Connect it all together and your good to go. - Its all very tight and takes some sqeezing in around the throtttle cable I'll post some pics as soon as I get a digital Camera I definitly feel More throttle response at higher speeds My next step is to fabricate a bigger scoop to get more air flow [Edited by Dave Quint on 07-04-2001 at 11:48 AM] |

Ram Air 300E
Brothers of the Benz
Interested in Ram air using OE filter housing. The OE housing allows you to use a larger K & N filter instead of the smaller cone filters and the installation is neater. To see this, goto http://home.earthlink.net/~asherson/Don I've since replaced the black non-metaalic tube with aluminum 3 inch streachable dryer tube purchased at Sears Hardware. Looks like these 300E's are pretty fast sedans.. I was surprised when I saw those numbers. I thought they ran about 9-10 secs to 100km/h..
I remember that BMW here marketed their 325i as being able to dash to 100 in 8.0 secs... I was stunned... so everyone was makin fun out of the 300Es.. I wondeer how my gay 230E does.... well that 4 cyl don't sound quite as nice as the 6 cyl...the manual will probably rob me off a few secs (im a bad shifter.) |

Wow! 0-60 in 7.1, thats pretty fast for a 300E. Those of you out there with early 300Es whats the average 0-60 time you guys get on these automatic cars? I have heard a great deal about how these earlier models (86-88) were quicker! If tuned a little our 300s could have great potential

I have the wrong size tire on my car..... 215/55R16 was intentionally installed to make up for the extra 20mm in body height over the 2wd 124. This was done for looks alone, I am aware of the gearing, speedo, and weight issues.
Next time I have the original wheels (with 50% Blizzak 195/65R15) or my 8-hole replicas (with 60% 205/60R15 D60s) I'll run it again to see if I can make up a few ticks with the lighter wheel/tire combo and lower (read:correct) gearing. My snows this year will be 215/60R16... I'm planning on pushing the tire height envelope to its limit. Bill |
