Hey, Jim. Do you know the dimensions of the muffler?

Kevin, I will do that, thanks for asking.

My information is that they need five orders in to do the run. This means five confirmed commitments for a W126 muffler, meaning paid in full (Paypal is the only acceptable method).

So far, (as of today) there are two that are paid. The confirmation receipt and information notes that the order status remains on "hold" pending the five minimum paid orders that will trigger the run.

A third individual wants one, but stated that he cannot order and pay until January, after Christmas.

A forth individual from Los Angeles stated in October that he would like to buy TWO, as he owns a 500SEC and a 560 SEC. But we have not heard from him yet.

You can either wait to see if the quota of 5 is reached, and then place your order, and get it, or place your order (and pay for it) now, to edge the group buy status closer to its quota of 5 that is needed to start the run.

So let me know of your intentions.

The paid orders are being monitored on a daily basis. Once three more of them have been recorded, the group buy will proceed and the mufflers will be manufactured and shipped from Austria by sea freight container.

Things are moving along very nicely towards that goal. You can check the link in the OP to see the daily progress.

If you wish to order now, then post a note to that effect here, after you have done so, or let me know, in order that the so-called master thread can be made aware of the status of the group buy order.

If you'd like to do it now, but do not have Paypal, and do not want to establish an account with them, just for that purpose, send me a PM, and maybe I can help you out...

Brian, no I don't, but I HAVE asked the distributor at the USA Remus shop what they are, (by email tonight) keeping in mind that these particular mufflers are "application-specific" and designed for the W126.

I have asked *specifically* whether one of them would fit the R107 body, as Remus no longer produces mufflers for that chassis, and whether the factory R107 mounting points are the same as on the W126. I hope that will help you.

I assume the muffler for the R107 chassis is also "one-in, two-out", same as the W126.

The Remus distributor is very co-operative, and usually answers emails on a daily basis, so I would expect to hear from him soon.

I will let you know what he says here, by PM or email to you, just as soon as I hear back from him.

Thanks. I was going on the photos I saw on BenzWorld.

These photos show that it's a dual pipe setup from beginning to end (like my SL); I doubted the front pipes would be a good fit, so I'd cut them as necessary and use just the muffler while putting the AMG tips on the ends. Are these photos the same muffler setup you guys are trying to buy or are they "one-in, two out"?

Just curious, why would you want to put AMG tips on this? I don't think it's a case of just popping the Remus tips off and sliding the AMG tips on.

Because the car is an AMG with AMG tips; no way would I want Remus tips when I have the original AMG ones available. The original tips would have to be cut off.

I need a new muffler, and I've contacted Sebring (the original supplier to AMG) to see if I can get a replacement and how much, but I only want quality stuff on this AMG and Remus is most certainly quality. Expensive, but possibly worth it if it'll fit.

W126 muffler specifications (as they relate to R107 SL models)

Brian,

The Remus shop emailed me today as follows:

"We will contact remus Austria for exact dimensions and mounting points.
However, since we are Friday (sic), we will most likely get our answer by Monday.

Best Regards,
Sales Department"

I guess you could stay tuned.

As to the "one in - two out" it was somewhat my understanding that that was the set up for the W126 Remus muffler, and it has been a long time since I looked underneath the car (no ramps at home for it) and I am pretty certain the stock W126 500/560 exhaust setup was "one-in /two out"

If you like I can ask that one, on Benzworld and clear it up in a jiffy. People there would know.

The picture in your post is not the same as the ones I recall seeing in the Benz World threads on the W126 Remus. There are some.

Is that picture one of a R107 muffler?

The old AMG exahust systems were built by Sebring of Austria . . . who are also the same folks that make Remus. So, in a round about way AMG=Sebring=Remus.

Saw off the Remus tips and sell them on ebay or CL.

Let me give you a suggestion that immediately comes to mind, here, that I think you might like.

You could buy the Remus, set it up and get a Sawzall or something, and saw off the Remus tips, and replace them with AMG ones, even yours on the car now; I understand well you desire to have the original vintage AMG look.

I bet you could sell those Remus tips here or on ebay in a flash.

The Remus literature says SPECIFICALLY that Remus will NOT sell their exhaust tips separately, as to do so would degrade their image and their product.

But there are many posers out there I bet who would JUMP at the chance to grab a set of Remus exhaust tips and put them on their Magnaflow, Flowmaster, etc. to have at least the convincing LOOK of the Remus tips on a cheap muffler without having to spring for the price of a Remus.

List it as "Remus exhaust tips" and I bet they would sell in a flash, and you could get serious money for them, especially if they were new, and it would mitigate your expense.

Hell I myself might have even considered spending the money for a complete exhaust set up and sticking those Remus tips on a Magnaflow, which Jono, a pretty good W126 expert, says is a good box.

But I like the idea of a Remus muffler a lot and anyway, I just paid Remus and bought one.

Just a thought - but I would definately consider it. What do you think?

1) The pics I posted were from the BenzWorld thread - I have no idea what the muffler in those photos fits, but I assumed it was a w126 since it was in the w126 forum.

2) I never thought about selling the Remus tips, but if it'll offset the price of the muffler a bit, then I think that's a brilliant idea.

3) As long as the muffler fits in my r107 application, then I'd be interested in being included. Especially since the Sebring=Remus=AMG. I'm looking forward to hearing what Remus has to say on Monday.

Thanks, Jim.

You are a VERY smart guy, Justin. I hope this works. (And just for the record, you are NOT a poser because you asked first dibs on them!!!

They would look so awesome on your wagon...

When are Nik, Garrett and ya'all going back to the yard again? I wouldn't mind going. A friend here is looking for a '96-'97 Volvo 960 wagon left side tail light lense, to replace her busted one, and that would be a reason for me to get to go down, right there.......

Jim, it won't fit my r107. The length on my Sebring/AMG muffler is 17.5 inches, and a two inch increase would mean it'll either hit the sway bar bushing mounts towards the front or the rear valance on the back. I'll have to find me a Sebring.
