Hey everyone! I was wondering: Whats the crazyest stuff you've done on the road? (i.e. speeding). I've burned every car you can think of in my dad's 740i at toped it out at 132 before backing off (MA cops are crazy).

Also, in a 92 or 93 500SEL, what kind of speed and acceleration should I expect? What chips and intakes (Renntech?) would be worth the money to make it that much faster? THANKS!

Driving 185km/h (115mph) with a 190E 2,3-16 while towing a double axled (empty) trailer...I didn't know better back then...

I've done 131mph in my '88 420SEL on a turnpike in tulsa, oklahoma with moderate traffic. Didn't as fast in a big mercedes as it does in other cars.

GSibs,
I believe the 500SEL was rated from 0-60 at 7.2 seconds, by Mercedes-Benz , so it might even be faster than that. And of course, it will top at 130 to due a governor.

As for the craziest thing I've ever done while driving... hmm, I don't think it would be appropriate to say... but let's just say it felt damn good, and at 80 mph, at that!

Mark,
You are in control, you are the man; you tell your wife what will and what won't happen. I'm just kidding.
Anyway, that's crazy. 190... I have hit 130 once in my C280.... mostly if I try to go fast, I barely nudge 120 then back off... but between 95 and 105 is such a nice cruising speed for my car.
I did go 125 in the S420 once... now that still seemed slow... that car was just amazing. The CLK is also VERY stable at speeds of 100 plus... I didn't think it would be, or as much as I thought.

Hi, I used to own both a Pantera and a 289 AC Cobra. Both very fast cars. I drove the Pantera at 155 mph on the I5 and that was mighty fast. Four wheel drifts over 4 lanes in slight curves. I drove the Cobra at 145 on a empty highway in the winter in Nevada and blew by a line of army vehicles with the smokeys on each end. I went by so fast they had no time to react and any ways in Nevada in those days there was no speed limit. I drove the Cobra from the Colorado River to Palm Springs over back roads and averaged 100 mph and 19 mpg without heating in the desert at 100 degrees F. I had to soak towels with water and let the evaporation cool me off in the sun.

I tricked out a 1985 Transam with a 480 bhp full race blown 383 CI engine. 12.9 and 115 in the quarter and a top end of over 160. This was a freeway racer and would go from 80 to 100 in 2 seconds flat. Had nitrous if needed and that would bench out at 660 bhp but scared the dodo out of me. Hunted down Porshe Turbos and Ferraris and ate them alive in 2 to 3 seconds.

Now I have a MBZ 500e and love to tease the Mustangs.

I can't hold off on this one anymore, I've just got to boast (though I haven't hit 190!).

Audi A8 4.2 quattro: an indicated 160mph in the wet.

BMW 728i: regularly hit an indicated 150mph (slightly downhill). This car got a lot faster as the miles piled on.

SLK230k: 149mph roof up, 142mph roof down. Blustery.

C240: hit 135mph in my new car just the other night.

Maddest of all, you will not believe this, what was I thinking of? Range Rover 4.0 litre V-8: 120mph. Have you seen a 2.5 tonne brick shi-thouse moving at 2 miles a minute?

Hit 141mph in my first 6.9 on it's maiden voyage back to Cleveland from St.Paul, Minnesota. Had always wanted a 6.9, so I bought one and immediately put that throttle to the floor once I got on the interstate! Boy, for technology that, at that time was approaching 20 years old, that 6.9 really cruised.

Hit somewhere near 130 in my 380SE on I-71 on a run from Cincinnati to Cleveland. Blew by a Ford Aerostar and glanced in the rearview to see the van sway from my backdraft! By the way, this was going slightly downhill. I don't think a 380 could reach 131 on it's own!

Did something near 150 in my BMW 745i I used to own. That car could really haul ass but still couldn't compete with the 6.9 in overall high-end smoothness. I remember that 745i had rear self leveling and I hadn't replaced the accumulators yet, so going that fast and hitting an imperfection in the road almost kicked the rear wheels loose!

I will usually run my 300SD around 100mph for long stretches up and down I-71 between Cleveland and Cinci. Once made the 209 mile trip in 2 hours and 11 minutes. Yeah, it used a full tank of fuel that time!

The vintage ones in my garage rarely see more than 75-80mph, especially the 250 Cabrio. The 450SL will competently run at speeds over 100mph but the temp gauge begins to climb quickly!

The Jensen is a superb GT car, but parts are hard to come by, so it doesn't leave the garage often. The DeLorean is a total dog, and 60mph is like riding an oversized go-kart!

Haven't even driven my 420SEL yet, the engine is still apart!

The 300E has seen maybe 120mph for a quick blast, but that was with Michelin Arctic Alpin snow tires on it. Too much of a risk of a blowout!

I went 94 km/h in Westmount Mall's underground parking garage for a buddy of mine's video. It was in my mothers (brand new at the time '99 Contour SVT).

That video was something else and so was the sound out of the dual exhaust underground like that.

I was 18 years old and we had some girls around. Enough said.

I'm now 21 with the same girl for 3 years so I've finally grown a brain.

Easy,

Mike McKinney
