Carlo(s) information

I've done a few conversions myself, the latest being a 342" Ford and 5 spd in a 190. For conversion info on a Chevy small block into a 123 chassis go to www.JagsThatRun.com. They have books for each model for swaps into Z cars, Volvos, Astros, Jags and Mercedes along with hints, sources etc. Their main book, 11th edition, is available form the site or Summit Racing.
Good luck,
Tobias MB

Unhappy Sorry, guess my shorts were pinching...

I looked in the back of the Engine Swapping TBI, TPI manual and it lists it in the back and avalable for $44.95. plus $5 frt, but is not shown on the website. I've sent them an email and told them I was embarassed to reveal a book not available. They even say at the bottom of page 1-29 that the manual should be available in 12/99. Will let you know when I hear back or you can keep ckg. the site for an update from them.

Good Luck,

FYI, I spoke with someone at Jags That Run a few months ago about information on a 123/chevy v-8 swap. He said it would be awhile for it to come out. They were having problems with other things in the company that delayed the manual. We'll just have to wait. andy

Question rack and pinion info for 280C

Making progress on that 351W into a 280C but would like to have some input on making the rack and pinion from a mid eighties mustang fit.

If anyone has make this change I would like to know what your experiences were.

I understand the original sterring column may have to be cut. Before I start cutting I want to get as much information as possible. Don't want to cut but once.

Any input would be helpful.

Geo

I wish I had taken pictures. Here is what I would suggest - remove the steering box and try to put the rack an pinion in place and see what is where and then determine where the mods have to be made. Cut and weld where necessary.

Front or rear steer?

Putting in a rack is lots more complicated than it looks. To retain the proper geometry and ackerman is trial and error. When I did my 190 with a rack, that was the most time consuming part of the project. Very few, if any, computer programs to tell you where to place it so all by trial. Make a bump steer guage to tell you when you're close.
Front steer means the rack is in front of the axle and the steering wheel would turn in the opposite direction than a rear steer which is behind the axle. Now, all said and done, a rack does not have the travel that reciprocating ball steering has so the arms need to be shortened. After shortening, have them normalized and re-heat treated back to the original rockwell so they won't be brittle and snap when approaching an 18 wheeler!
Like I said, putting a motor in is EASY!

Good luck,
Tobias MB

R&P in 280C

I'll try to do that. I'll also include other pictures when I get it all together.

Cool 280c updat

Moving right along. WE are getting the enging placed in the right place by cutting the mounting plates from a mustang and placing it in place to set the motor mounts.

The R&P unit is being machined to fit.

It will eventually all set in here:
