I just received the Temp Sender (black 1 pole sensor, part number 005 542 26 17) and ACC Temp Sensor (blue 2 pole sensor, part number 008 542 45 17) from the Parts Shop. (Really quick ship, btw...)

It seems like a pretty straight forward replacement (i.e. detach wires, unscrew sensor, install new sensor, reattach wires). Before I actually go ahead and replace these parts, is there anything I have to know or do before attempting to R&R as described above? Any gaskets, sealant, lubricant or whatnot that needs to be applied?

Wanted to double check...didn't want to create a larger problem by trying to solve a smaller one...

Thanks.

just make sure you open the coolant reservoir cap to relief pressure before removing sensors. also look for the seals that are on the bottom of the old sensors. they should be aluminum. when you remove the sensors some coolant will come out. hope that will help a bit.

Helmut,

I was able to do the replacement prior to your reply. I did remove the cap to relieve pressure (there was none) and I made sure that the engine was cold (left it overnight). The only thing is that only the black one pole sensor (temp. sender) had an aluminum washer. The one I removed had it and so did the replacement part. The blue sensor (2 pole coolant sensor) didn't have it on both the original part I took out nor on the replacement part I put in. So I just put it in without the washer.

Everything's okay now. It doesn't overheat because the auxiliary fans kick in on cue and the temp gauge is working again. It registers between 80-100 in mixed city and highway driving with ambient temperature of 26-61 celcius.

I also have watter wetter in the radiator...

Thanks.

i would still recommend the aluminum seal on the black one also. if you have to reuse the old one. i would recommend it.
