Hi Guys,

First time post...Im in London, UK.

I have a late 1990 190E 2.5-16 with the following spec:

- Auto box
- Blue/Black Metallic
- Cruise Control
- Sunroof
- Full Leather Interior
- Rear Head rests
- Air Con
- Heated Seats
- Electric seats
- Illuminated Sun visors

The car is in fantastic condition and i have kept everything stock. the car is developed enough as it is and does not need extra mods in my opinion...

Its a great car and the engine simply roars, i have pics but not sure how to post them...

thanks again,

Zak

Another one for you,

'86 2.3-16,
smoke silver, 5 speed

mechanically rebuilt with less than 10k on it, rebuilt motor with Euro pistons, mild head work, running stright pipe exhaust currently, factory Evo2 wheels, some lightening (much more to follow), slowly progressing to a dedicated track car. chassis has unknown miles on it.

Can't believe i've missed this thread for 4 years...

Car currently has 164k, small rust, TC tensioner update. Removed rear sls.

Planning on driving it another 3 or 4 years before a restoration.

ATA-how did your engine blow?

Also, does anybody think these suckers are gonna be collectable someday? A friend asked me if it was still depreciating...I thought for moment and told him the market was just about bottomed. Am starting to see a few restorations out there too.

cheers,
dan r.

How did engine blow?

I've owned this car since mid-1997 and have had the privilege of two engine failures. The first, within a month of my buying it, was the result of a "superceded" chain tensioner failure. My second failure, last July, was a result of a) the improper - by one link too many - length chain and b) the inadequate torque applied to the crankshaft bolt when the engine was put back together in 1997. There is no "key-way". Instead M-B used a compression system utilizing 240 ft/lbs. of torque.

The moral of the story is that these cars are so rare and not everyone knows all the little indiosyncrasies of the engine.

16V in South Texas

170,000 miles, 3rd owner (since 1997). Whatever the German name for the black/grey color. E-code headlights. W124 E420 8-hole wheels/front sway bar. No SLS which was replaced with 1) Eibach rear sway bar, Euro 2.6 SportLine springs/Bilstein Sport shocks. Bekkers big bore throttle body.

Everything renovated in climate control systen including hoses for R134.

The engine has been a *****! Two failures from stupid but wrong repairs. The first was the result of a "superceded" timing chain tensioner failure. The second emerged from the first rebuild: inadequately torqued crankshaft bolt and a slightly too long chain. Ugh! $$$$$ - but I really like this unique vehicle. Makes a nice consort to the NSX - and vice versa.

first post.

1985 euro, getrag, black pearl, 91k miles, all stock when i purchased in a few months ago.

mods so far:
bilsteins and h&r's along with full suspsension overhaul all stock exept for 300E sport ca bushings.

so far so good, i stumbled accros this site looking for a set of ITB's and some EVO II wheels. if you have em sell em to me

these are pretty impressive cars, very, very smooth handling characteristics, smoother than my last 2 e36 m3's, car really just needs ITB's, EFI, evo 1 flares, evo II wheels, and some sort of HID projector retro fit and i will be very very content with keeping this car till death.

Suspension question

Hi Glen

I have a 87 16v and I have a question concerning your sachs sporting set suspension eliminating the sls.
How do like it and how does it compare to oem performance?
How much lower is the car?
Where did you purchace kit and how much was it?
I'm not sure what to do, my sls is not working. Should I try to repair or just get rid of it? I have no problem sacrificing ride quality for superior performace.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thank you
Art16v

- Smoke Silver

- Purchased 12/96, 3rd owner
- 17 x 7.5 Moda R6 with 215/40 S-02 Pole Positions

Near future upgrades:
- Stainess steel brake lines (bought, just need to install)
- Stainless exhaust system, most likely from Timevalve
- Euro headlights/wipers

Distant future upgrades:
- Bigger brakes
- 2.6 liter stroker or maybe a supercharger

Suspension HELP!!!!

Hi Alain V.

I was wondering if you might be able to help me figure out what to do with my 87 16v sls suspension. I dont think the sls is working properly and I want to significantly improve the handling. Ride quality is not that important to me. Could you make specific suggestion on components such as shock, strut, spring. sway bars and braces and where I can buy them? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Art16v

Too many mods to list off the top of my head right now,,,,
you can see it on my webpage at http://www.expage.com/benzracer

I also used to own a very nice 86 2.3 16valve- street car.
It was my daily driver until 1998, when I sold it to a friend of mine to help "finance" my cobra replica project.
It was a black/black 5 speed car with:
gutted pre-cats & aluminized 2.5 inch straight pipe going to a remus rear muffler

AMG springs all around, removed hydraulic rear & had bilstein sports all around

crossdrilled rotors, powderpainted calipers, 500e front swaybar, strutbrace.

My friend has continued to do alot of upgrades & mods,,including having almost everything on the car powderpainted, polished or chromed! He has won numerous car shows with it, and treats it like his baby. I still do alot of work on the car for him, and know that someday I will have the chance to buy it back.

SLS be gone

My mod is simple. Replace rear sway bar with 16V Eibach version. Springs are European 190E 2.6 SportLines (Phil at Mercedesshop can procure), and OEM rear 190E 2.6 sport shocks. The car handles great. Ride height unaffected. Very simple and totally reliable.

OK, please welcome me, this is my first post. Just picked up 86 16 Valve in Black, all original, 80K miles. Drove it from Kansas City, Missouri to Los Angeles past weekend, 1700 miles in 1.5 days. Just ordered a lot of parts (I like doing preventive maintanence instead of repairs) Yesterday while the car was on the lift at my friend's shop i discovered that LSD doesn't work. Also have H&R Cup kit on order. I'm planning to use this car as weekend driver / occasional track day car. Hopefully it will not dissapoint. Cheers!

Dennis

Lurkin for a long time, but i might as well say hi.

Run a somewhat modded 85 rauchsilber that i bought a yr and a half ago.
Have turboed the living crap out of it actually.

Mrs got one as well, but herīs a pristine 88 yr model.
Mods on that one are only the avant garde wheels and a K&N.
Also rauchsilber.

I run a H&R cup kit on mine paired with 40 series 17 inchers, but frankly speaking with the power iīm making i find that to soft.

Anyways;
Hers next to mine somewhat lower.

..and mine doing what it does;
