Thumbs up Nice Looking EURO E500 on Ebay !!!

Came across a Nice Looking EURO E500 on Ebay, one of the best looking ones I've seen with low miles Monotone and 94 look front with 600 Grill, but they forgot to change rear to 94 look, looks great anyway! Probably a 93 but they claim it's a 94? Can tell by the rear end, radio... Love the headlights and wheels. Just wanted to share with you guys, check it out at http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cgi/ebayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=594077853&r=0&t=0

What do you mean?

I was under the (wrong?) impression that the rears for the E500 did not change from the 500E...only the hood and grills were changed. That's a Euro rear btw.

Nice!

The '94s have the same rear as the '92-93's on the E500. It wasn't changed. Does anybody else have what looks like a dual A/C setup? Maybe its a Euro thing. Also has some switch down on the shift gate that I don't have. Also maybe a Euro thing? Fewer buttons across the top of the consol than mine also.

The bumper cover did NOT change when the 500E became the E500, however, the deck lid did. Early cars had a bolt-in license plate panel with plastic trim strip that goes completely across the back. '94 cars have a one-piece deck lid and small chrome strip.

Randy: I noticed the switch by the shift gate also...I wonder what that is?

Yea, I was referring to the bumper cover only. So is this a '94 deck lid? I can't tell. Maybe somebody out there can enlighted us as to the switch.

Euro models get the "normal" ACs, the ones you can control and set yourself, unlike the NA models' auto air which thinks its smart (when it actually isn't). The knob on the left side controls the fan speed while the knob on the right side is the vent selector (i.e. dash, floor, windshield--for defrost, or a combination of dash and defrost). The buttons in the middle are for AC, Economy and recirculate, iirc. This is a much better set up than the ones in North American cars, in my experience.

The switch on the shifter is for sport and economy modes.

The row of switches on the dash, if you'd notice, is missing the air recirculate switch (as it is already in the switch group below it, between the two knobs) as well as the panel for the anti theft light.

Glen is Right!

The 92-93 W124 Sedans had the basic trunk, but with the additions a plastic filler insert that made the rear flush, with long black trunk handle. Same thing with 94+ Coupes and Cabriolets.

All the 94+ W124 sedans including E500 models had a 1 peice metal trunklid and chrome trunk handle above license plate.

The 500E E500 had the same bumpers including the rear one for all the years.

Hope this Clears it up for good!

What about the euros though? Is there a difference in the deck lids between the 94s vs 93 and earlier? The euros have a longer recess for the plates due to the different size of plates that go in them...

Here it is again (the one from Ebay) for ready reference:

Euro License Plate Area LOOK BETTER!

The trunk styles on the various years are identical on both North America and Euro W124s. Except ALL the European versions have a longer indentation for 520mm Euro Licence Plates. The US has less lonf area in the plastic fill panel, and in the 94 + trunk lid the area and chrome trim is shorter as well.

In my opinion I don't like the 94+ trunk much. With the chrome trim it looks like it was added and out of place. The Euro License Plate Area shown in the Pic of the 500E above looks much sleeker, gives the back a wider appearance than US models with the longer opening and black handle strip. I've been trying to get one of those Euro Filler Panels for my early US W124 for a while now...

FA22,

I might be able to get some for you at a decent price. Recent devaluations here help keep prices low in $ terms. If the dealer has NOS items, that is. Send me an email if you want one and I'll check.

For reference, I was able to purchase my 94/95 Hood (# 124-880-0857 ) for $400 vs US dealer price of >$500 and and 94/95 Hood Grille (# 124-880-0983 ) for $200 vs US dealer price of >$250. Difference should more than cover up for shipping, I figure.

Can anybody confirm though that this is the 94 euro filler panel?

Rainmaker,

Yes this is the fill up panel for a 500E I saw it a few days ago on a 500E which was facelifted to a E500.

It's a polyster panel which is placed on the thrunk.

I think it's just a cheaper way to facelift a 500E to an E500.

but it looks nice.

Here in the Netherlands the plate costs about half the price of the compleet thrunk

Thanks! i'll go look into it.

The filler panel is plastic. I've seen the ones in the silver picture with the chrome strip...and those are metal. The only way to do that would be to weld it on or to replace the whole trunk lid.

Thanks again...

Rainmaker - The cheapest Euro Plastic Filler Panel I found. Is from a company called DW. Over there it's about 160 US not including shipping and I believe it is aftermarket. If your picking up some parts or somthing could you look into the cost of this unit for me. Mabey if it's a good price I can get it from over there since this peice isn't even carried in the US.

Thanks!

Will do...

I'll call the dealer now...

If any of our friends in Europe can get a part number for the plastic filler panel, it would certainly make things easier with the other OEM suppliers...
