190E 2.6 swap out for 3.2 12 valve motor

I am considering swapping out the 2.6l m103 motor for a 3.2 l m103 12 v.

Can someone who knows or has done this swap answer a few questions concerning the swap.

1. What model year was the m103 12v available?
2. Can the exisiting trans and rear end of the 190 be used?
3. Does the wire harness or ECU need to be swapped or can the 190 componets be used?
4. Any issues with exhaust manifolds, motor mounts or other issues that might complicate the swap?
5. Does anyone know the weight differences between the two motors?

thanks
Rik Johnson

Dude

Someone on the 190Revolution site did that conversion...check it out and contact him, I believe he's in NJ. Let me know if you can't track him down and I'll help you out in any way I can, I remember talking to him when I had my 190E 2.6. I believe it was out of 1993-4 car but don't quote me.

I saw Mike Skees car on the 190Erevolution site. That motor is a 24v motor, which as I understand it, is a more difficult swap, so I was more interested in a easier swap using the 12v motor, or maybe the 2.8l 12v motor.

If I am wrong about the difficulity of stuffing the 3.2 24v motor in, let me know.

BTW, do you have a email for Mike Skees?

thanks

I may have his e-mail at home...I'll check tonite...Contact Clinton Davis, the webmaster for that site, I know has it. I don't think the 24V motor is more difficult to squeeze in there; probably the performance is worth the trouble though. I've never done it so I can't really speculate. I'll get back to you when I can. Good luck.

FWIW, the EARLY 24V M104 engine used CIS injection, and was found in the early 300CE's.

This is an easier conversion, than the LATE 24V M104 engine that used HFM.

The 1986-1992 M103 engine in the 300E should be an easier conversion, however, you do need to transfer computers. I can't say for sure if the 190E 2.6 engine wiring harness is the same as the 300E 12V engine wiring harness.

Best of luck,

:-) neil

Thanks Neil, the early model 24v engine (104.980) was the engine I was looking into just for the reason you mentioned. I have my eye on a 1990 300Ce that I can pick up complete for very little. That would give me the rear end, trans, engine, wire harness, ecu and brakes if there of any value to put those on the 190E.

I was hoping to locate someone who has already done this particular swap.

The 12V 300E motor is not really worth it since there is not that much Hp to be gained.

I believe the 24v 300Ce motor has 217 hp.

thanks for the info

Rik- my understanding is that 24V M104 engine is good for a lot more horsepower and torque simply by using a better fuel-injection and electronic management system.

Electromotive's TECII has been successfully transplanted to a 3.6 M104 engine (aka, C36 engine) and boosted stock HP of 268 to 349 @ 6500RPM. While the engine is out, now is the time to at least attach the crank-trigger just in case you want to hot-rod in the future.

Best of luck,

:-) neil

Hmmm, I had a C36 and spent I don't know how much time researching HP mods and came up with zilch. I ended up selling the car and getting a Corvette (did not want to dump 10k into a turbo setup).

Is there any info available online concerning the TecII system?

BTW, what type of injection upgrade are you referring to for the M104 engine? I understand the CIS is not that great (I had it on my 911) are you referring to the newer HFM or something different?

thanks
Rik

The TEC II system is made by electromotive and it is a "speed/density" EFI system that also uses their DIS ignition system.

It allows you to control & adjust all functions of you ignition/injection system through a laptop pc.

If you want "total cool" you can use this system in conjunction with some "webber style throttle bodies" from places like twm,at
http://www.twminduction.com
Sorry I don't have a link to electromotive handy at the moment, but there should be one off of the twm site.

There are also other known efi systems out there like Haltech and SDS(simple digital systems) to name a couple.

They are getting more popular in racing, now that more sanctioning bodies are allowing injection systems.
