Need 126/107 rear break dimensions

Does any one have a set of rear unturned rotors lying arround.

What on earth are you planning on doing with your SEC that you'd need bigger brakes?

It's not an SEC it's an SL. SL and SEC/SEL have the same rear breaks. It is an M120 V12 power 560SL. I will be trying to get it to track days drag races and hopefully Bonneville's speed week.

I think he may have meant me, John. I don't really know, to answer your question, Johnhef. I have plenty of other things to attend to before I would really consider doing anything brake-related. I need to figure out how to make it go faster before I have to worry about stopping it.

Front Big Breaks for the 107

I finally got the new bearings and seals in for the brakes on my V12 560SL. For the front its just a bolt on. The parts needed for the front are calipers, rotors and backing plates from a 1996 SL600. Please not these will only fit the 560SL, earlier 107's used different hardware.

As far as the backs which are the same as the 126 and several other models for many years. Today I found this wasn't going to be such an easy bolt on. Last week I was hoping to get buy with custom hats only and off the shelf performance rotors from Wilwood. Today it's starting to look like custom hats at least the Wilwood rotors I selected will not work so I will have to do some additional research.. This is because the radial position of the caliper bolts is shorter on the 129 than the 107 making the final radial position of the calipers different than the 129. It appears that the rotor will have to be slightly larger.

And of course with bigger breaks comes bigger wheels.

In any case attached are the pictures.

Now run stickier and wider tires and you'll stop SOONER.

Remember, it's the TIRES that does the work of stopping.

Bigger rotors means more reserve for heat-soak.

If you take a close look you will notice it has the SL600 wheels and tires. Not super big but proportional to the break system and weight of the car. I believe I can get 9's on the rear without flaring.

@Neil, when I was running 500E brakes on my TE, it would stop somewhat shorter, but would take more abuse than the stock TE brakes.... I am running my stock brakes now, and they are almost on par with my 500E brakes. Just fade alot sooner than the 500E brakes... I also run R-Compounds when abusing the wagon...

@John. That looks sweet. Whats the width of 129 wheels?
