Cool My Awsome 300E Pics

Here are some pics of the work I have done on my 1987 300E.
the updated grill and Euro headlights are going on this weekend.
ENJOY!

The valve cover is powder coated and the headers are aluminum ceramic coated. the air cleaner housing is also powder coated silver like the valve cover but in the picture it is regular spray paint.

Here is a closeup of what the car looks like in bright sunlight. otherwise it looks black on overcast days and at night.

Thumbs up Looks finger licking good!!!!!

Now the questions...Who did the headers and how? Were they sandblasted first or were they new? I really like those wheels!!!
Who makes the front spoiler?
Keep it up and keep sending pictures!

Looks killer Adam!!!

Now all you need to do is

Lower that puppy, and if you are really feeling sporting, Paint the trunk star gloss black... I did mine, looks bad ass...

Really nice, Adam. I was thinking of leaving the valve cover black, but doing the wiring loom cover in silver when I replace the broken part. Is the ceramic coating on the exhaust manifold for thermal efficiency, and did you have the inside of the exhaust manifold ceramicized as well for flow? Also, how do you like those Kumho ECSTAS?

J.HIDALGO, Ashman and JCE............

The headers are original, they are sandblasted and port matched.
I had them done by my local coatings expert. He also did the powder coating on my wipers as well. (note pictures) The headers are coated inside and out very thick. (9 months with no pealing or rust showing.) I am not shure weather it offers me any thermal efficiency because the thickness of the steel but it looks a lot better than rust. I was charged $60 for the coating on the headers which was considerably better than the $250 Jet-Hot quoated me.
the front air dam/spoiler is sold by SPOILERS ECT. I don't know mutch about this company because my father purchased it for me for Christmas. I do know that thier probobly not as good as most Mercedes tuners areodynamics but thier built strong and light and they mount very solid. so solid i can stand on the lip of my air dam and not break it.
I do plan on lowering my 300E but i want to get the parameters down to a science before I jump into a package. I don't want my rear sitting lower than my front due to pad thickness,,, I've seen it happen.
I am still considering coating my stars. the grill trim and chrome surround are being coated gloss black right now and I will be recieving them tomarrow for weekend installation. After that I will decide weather I'm going to coat them black. I like your idea on the gloss black grill screen as you can see Ashman,, Thanks!
The Kumho's seem to be good tires for the price, I have had them for about 15,000 miles now and are showing no abnormal signs of wear. They grip very well and are quiet on asphalt surfaces. at first I was reluctant because of the low price compared to the Michelen Pilot Sports. You should see how fast my friend eats through those pilots on his C43 AMG compared to my cheap Ecstas!

Adam- great job!

What do you mean by "upgraded" grill? Are you changing out the hood? If not, please post part numbers for the "upgraded" grill for us with the older hoods.

With that deep-chinned spoiler, be very careful about lowering.

I had to take-out H&R springs and go to SportLine springs, because I was way too low in the front, even with the thickest pads.

I would go with SportLine or Eibach springs front and rear; 2-bump pads in the front, 1-bump in the rear (so you're not too low); Koni adjustables in front and Koni in the rear; and SportLine swaybars front & rear.

Best of luck,
:-) neil

Here are the answers to some of your questions. The clear markers are not Bosch but still seem to be very good quality. they fit very well and look good. I am not happy wth the fitment of my Hella smoked taillights there is a 2 millimeter grove on each side. anyway, the side marker bulbs are not clear, they are yellow but they are coated on the top with silver paint so they will not show thier yellow hue when off.
My AMG rims are 7.5"X17" all around. the tires are 225/45-17 all around, the combination rides very well.
As for the grill, all i'm doing is powder coating the trim pieces and the surround black. this will give me the old AMG look that the 124's had in the 80's.
I like the combination Niel has for his suspension. sounds good to me. Dose anyone else have experiance with Koni adjustable struts and shocks? what would a set of Koni struts cost?

SWEET!! Your car is coming along very well. I remember when you posted pics back in the days when you got your front kit. I too have a 300e and moding the hell out of it and having lots of fun. I was wondering do you have any more pics of your front bumper? Can't really make out the details thanks and keeping up the excellent work...I think all you need now is a drop

Wheels

Nice car!

By the looks of the pics with stock ride height there would be enough room in there for 18" wheels.

Did you ever consider them?

I have been doing the dance between 17" and 18" and can't decide which yet.

I think your wheels would look great coated, what color?
Black, grey, etc???

hi adam,
did you have your euro lights installed yet?
hook up your city lights.
have you thought about what wattage bulbs you are going to use?
if you can use heavier gauge wiring, it will give you more flexibility on more powerful bulbs.

post some more photos when you can.

thanks

peter
