I currently have 17x8.5 AMG 3-piece wheels, and I noticed that on the TireRack website the following:

Normal setup: 245/45R17 at 25.7-inches diameter

Staggered setup:
Front: 235/45R17 @ 25.5-in. diamter
Rear: 255/40R17 @ 25.0-in. diameter

Is the staggered setup with a 0.5-in. difference necessary to keep the ASR from going crazy?

Why not 265/40R17 (25.4-in.) or 275/40R17 (25.7-in.), which would be more of a perfect match for 245/45R17 @ 25.7-in.?

Also are these too wide for 8.5-inch wheels?

The TireRack recommended wheel width shows 8.5-inches is in range for 275 tires.

Hey neil. 275/40/18 is a 9.5 inch wheel. 8.5 is a 245/40/18

thats the stagger set up alot of guys run,including my 500E

But is 275 too wide for 8.5 wheels?

I'm just reading the recommended wheel width range as published by TireRack for 275/45WR17 tires.

Do you have to roll your fenders for such a wide rear tire?
