1987 19E 2.3-16 Cosworth fixer-upper

OK, I thought I would start a thread to track my progress on this car. I have never owned a Benz before so I may be a little slow on my progress but I am a decent mechanic so I should be ok.

So far (in no particular order) my "fix it" list is:
1. Fuel Filter (here but not installed yet)
2. New tires
3. see if A/C works
4. Heater (make sure it works)
5. Sunroof won't open (blows fuse)
6. New Radiator
7. drivers side rear window not working (fixed)
8. small hole in drivers seat
9. Exhaust hangs too low (see if missing a hangar)
10. New Hood (sell old hood)
11. re-glue rear pillar liner (FIXED)
12. re-glue d/s rear door panel (FIXED)
13. fix power steering leak
14. remove SLS (if not working, need to test)
15. battery (not holding a charge)
16. fix oil pan drain bolt (might need new oil pan)
17. turn signals not working...(FIXED)
18. missing air filter...(FIXED)
19. head gasket
20. Drivers door does not lock/unlock with key (feels like it isn't connected inside)
21. passenger rear door lock not connected (FIXED)
22. power antenna not working
23. re-attach spoiler at front drivers fender...(FIXED)

I love those cars, 3 things u need to do quick:
1- clean up the interior and fix the wood inserts.
2- for god's sake plz lose that hood and get the original, much much nicer look.
3- do your best to find a dog-leg manual box and lose this auto.

and keep it alive man not many left of those.

Definitley. That hood looks like a big overbite. Good luck with that car. I think I would get discouraged at this one. Heck, I'm pretty discouraged at my car, and I even bought a Focus to keep my mind off it.

Yes I am having a bit of a battle over what to do with it. Part of me has fallen in love with this car and says fix it and keep it. The greedy side of me says push it in the back yard and part it out. What to do?

I started tearing it apart for the head gasket.
I also located a 16V hood and grill, picked them up yesterday (thanks Jeff).

Thanks Jay for the kind words. This car needs a ton of work, and sometimes I think its not worth it, so that encouragement is helpful.
I finished the new hood install and it looks tons better with the correct hood and grill on it. Even though the hood is from a Black/blue car it still looks way better than the hood that it had. I'll take some pics in the daylight.

Coool, man those are now rare cars to find, just dont go rushing the fix. take your time and try and perfect the car. they still go expensive here man, a 1991 or 1990 2.5-16 manual will not sell for less than 7k if in a fairly good condition.

That show was my inspiration to buy and fix up a "Modern Classic". I did not know that they did a 16V though. That was cool! thanks.

Here is a couple of pics from todays tinkering. I get to cross off one of my fix-it list items too. I reattached the body kit in the front and fixed the fender well plastic on one side where it was broke. I will get more pics of the new hood after I put the car back on the ground tomorrow.
