Guido:

You might try michaels thread on 500E speakers - it sounds like a fantastic setup and is going to form the basis for mine (when the money magically appears) 500E Stereo upgrade

Guido,

How do you plan to power this whole system? How much power? What's your budget, and what areyour expectations? Do you plan any sound processors?

Answer these questions and I'll likely be able to help. I wouldn't suggest following my install to the letter, as I think the MB Quart speakers were over-rated; to do it again I'd use Boston Acoustics, Focal or some other high-end brand. If I didn't have considerable equalization capability, I'd hate the MBQuarts and would have thrown them away.

Hi mike. Well here's the deal. I'm running as of right now a kenwood head unit. 45 watts a minidisc indash unit. All I want is to installed a subwoofer pump. The kind that displaces my first aide kit. I had this set up on my old 300E it sounded great. As for power I want maybe a 4 OR 6 channel amp. I want like 150 watts to power all my speakers. Dash/doors/rear deck. Then add say 100-200 watts to power the sub alone. No fancy EQ's or anything like that. And some decent speaker I felt you thought so highly of the MB Quartz. You let me know some kickass speaker at a decent $. I dont want to spend more that say $1200.00 including labor. Im not going to be doing the installation. Give me your feed back on this. Also what do you think about the tweeter being mounted on the door little 1/4 trim piece which hides the electronics for the electric mirrors.
thanks for your feedback Mike.

Guido,

You should do the install...an installer will break every interior piece in your car, and there are many. To do it again, I'd simply gut the car-pull the seats, carpet, etc. Do it once, do it right.

MBQuarts are okay, but not worth the huge $$$, IMHO.

Get one big amp-easier to deal with & wire. Maybe a 6 channel, bridge 2 for the sub, 2 channels for rear, 2 for front. I recommend component speakers...put the woofers in the front doors, tweeters up in the dash pointed at the windshield (as to where, leave the grills off at first and bend them in different directions until they suit you). In the rear, coaxials are fine since they're largely there for "fill".

As to a sub, there are a lot of ways to do this-I recommend you do a separate post...much will be based on the sub(s) you select, though (they all like different amounts of air behind them/suspension/porting methods).

We'll get you through this, but it takes a LOT of planning to do right.

I think, for the money, Boston Acoustics makes fabulous, durable, great-sounding speakers. I'd think 6 1/2" component front speakers will run $250ish; rears maybe $100. Amp I'd think will be around $500, and I haven't a clue on the sub. And wire it with expensive wire-that's another $150-$200 for the system.

Adds up quick, eh?

500E speaker set up

Ok mike. So boston. What size are going in the front dash. Without cutting or any crap like that. Would they be 4 inches,I know the doors will take a 6.5 how about the rears on the hatshelf area, what size are those also 6.5. You think without a sub and just a clean amp setup I can get enough bass back there. You know i like to hear that clean bass punch what sound is appealing to me in bass fequncy is something like 60 hrz cycle. I listen to alot of Led Zep and black sabbath so the drummers of that era John Bohnam and Bill Ward. Thats the bass Im lookign for he he.

Let me know since your the Mb guru of sounds from your applications.

Take Care Guido.

I am sorry to say this but that sounds very snobbish!
Why would you refute advice from other members, that do not have 500E/E500s?
I know that their are members with very nice sound systems in their 124's, and to my knowledge there is no difference in the 500E/E500 sound system form other 124 cars of the same years as the 500E/E500(except that it came with the premium sound system, as did my E420).
I do not understand your logic.

Would you have refused help from MBenz, he has an awesome sound system (from what I have seen).

Or would you refute info from a professional installer?

Oh and if you meant "the 500 owners" as 500 different members with sound systems in their cars then I AM VERY SORRY (but I do not think you did)and I will retract this post.

I am not trying to be mean, just vocal.
And shouldn't this post be in "Car Audio"

Just my 2 cents

Guido,

If you are looking for speakers that sound great without breaking the bank, testdrive the DEI speakers. I find that they are just a shade below the best (which to *me* would be Dynaudio, some focals, the "PX" line of a/d/s/ etc.) but at a small fraction of the price. I'm sure they have speakers that will fit the factory locations. DEI even has a 3 way set I believe that would be just right for the front door/mid/trim piece set up.

I'm still about to put in mine and am very anal about sound quality that I got speakers that I wanted....having them fit properly without cutting sheetmetal would have to be another problem that would have to be handled separately.

Hope that helps.

btw, here's a link to the DEI website: http://www.directed.com/audio/index.html

and here's a link to my source for DEI speakers: www.mmxpress.com (you can look for John Spagnolo...he's a good guy and will help you sort things out...he'll never push a sale for the sake of a sale)

Thanks Rain. Sounds good. I rather spend a few good thousand on some kickass brakes and let the music slip a little. I have a mindisc player that I take to my music studio to record demos of my rock band. Then play it on my MD in my car so for stock it has a ***** 16 bit quality sound already. Thanks for you input.

No prob...

Actually, the sound quality isn't that much off the highest end ones. I guess at extreme volumes, yes, and when you're listening critically. But otherwise, you probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference...
