Daniel forgot to mention that besides all of his projects, he made a two sheave crank pulley for my supercharger project. It is beautiful! Thanks.

Daniel also passed me a link of a very interesting ECU to look at. Engine Management Systems Check it out.

Supercharger Update:

My son and I spent a full two days this holiday weekend building the bracket for the supercharger. What I thought would be a fairly easy job proved to be a very detailed, sequential process of getting each piece to fit just right. The fit is very tight ... ground off 1/4 inch off of the motor mount; raised the engine mount 1/2 inch; ground off 1/4 inch off of the alternator bracket; removed 1/4 inch off of the lower rear supercharger bolt sleeve and have 1/16 inch clearance to a bottom bracket on the engine. I will probably need to lower the sway bar a half and inch and I will need to make a tighter radiator hose bend to allow for clearance. Bottom line is that the bracket with the supercharger and belt tensioner will fit. One more step, I still have a number of tasks left but this was a "watershed event".

I'll keep you posted.

Jim:
It's great that you're making some real, tangible progress. I'm still in the 'working it out in my head' phase

I have big progress to report. The bracket to hold the supercharger and belt tensioner is completed. I am working on the ducts and air filter. The "first cut" of the ducts is being fabricated out of 2 inch PVC drainpipe. If it works, I can use it as a pattern for making something more permanent. I have updated my Kompressor web site with current pictures.

Great progress, Jim!
I wish I could say the same for me

I was just looking at your dyno sheet. I'm surprised how "relatively" flat the stock torque curve is. Looks like from 2200 RPM or so, torque is over 100 lb.ft. It'll be very interesting to see it after the supercharger is functioning!

Thanks for posting pictures

Daniel ..... Thanks for inquiring about progress. Last weekend was supposed to be the "final installation" but I ended up with a problem between the by-pass hose and the alternator pulley so it all had to come out again. The aluminum supercharger exhaust manifold was "adjusted" again and I got the manifold back last night. I should find time on Sunday or Monday to again try to install everything and find out if the project has promise. I really feel the excitement building ..... Just can't wait to see if it works.

I Love the paint on your car. Have you been able to make any progress on your engine management system?

Thanks,
I'm taking the car out of the shop on Monday. Can't wait to drive it! I haven't driven my baby in 6 months! Hope I can still find my way around the 5 Speed Getrag !!
The engine management system is next on my list. I was planning on doing it this fall, but the EVO II project took a lot longer than expected. I'll probably tackle it this spring when the weather gets warmer!

Later!

I finally have pictures. Everything is installed and "operates". I generates great boost but I still have control problems on both the boost side and the throttle side. These are discussed in my other thread on problems. Anyway, you can check out the latest pictures on my 16v page.

Thumbs up Wow!

Jim,
I'm impressed that you were able to get it all installed and running so quickly! I realize you're still working out some issues, but how does it drive? Can you feel the power difference under boost?

Now that the holidays are over, I should be able to devote some time to my s/c project.

Congrats!

Glen ... The effect of the supercharger is very real and significant. Even though I have not gotten it "on-line" full time, the few test runs have shown a real seat of the pants improvement and a decrease in my timed acceleration run (third gear 1500 to 6500 RPM) of 1.4 seconds (15.33 to 13.92). Most of the real increase came in the 4500 to 6500 RPM when it "just took off". My spreadsheet program showed a horsepower increase from 173 to 194 at 6000.

I'll keep you posted on progress.
