Hi Hedpe.

I'd have to agree with Snowman. I've got a W124 300CE-24 coupe with a stick shift. 220bhp and that is booked by MB at 7.5 Secs 0-62mph.

93mph- Mercedes 190e 8v 1986 5spd

I plan to get the engine rebuilt soon with my mechanically inclined friend who rebuilts engines for a living.

Real measured top speed for a 1989 260E (automatic) with an engine in very good condition with a fresh tune-up.

209 Km/hour or 129.5MPH.

Speed officially verified by a man dressed in blue in a white/black car with little funny flashing lights on top.

The factory listed 0-60 time for my car is 5.9 sec. -- but I believe I have lowered that time to about 5.5 depending on the day. The car's speed limiter kicks in at 155 mph but I've never gone faster than 140 mph in it. That's plenty fast enough for thrills, considering the US speed limits. Car was rock solid, silent and utterly comfortable at that speed. The stock brakes were more than sufficient as well.

When I worked for the factory I did 162MPH on the Autobahn in a new Carrera 4 .... it then started raining! Everyting of course came up fast but it was not as scary as one might think.

The really odd part is when I slowed down to 75MPH my wife asked me why we were going so slow!

Guys,

Just found a review of a 300CE from an '88 edition Autocar.

The 0-60 was 7.5 seconds, pretty good for a M103 engine.

Also the speedo was 5 mph optimistic from 50 to 120mph, so it's pretty safe to assume this applies across the range.

Bugger! that means the Skyline on the M25 (BBC TV last night) was only doing 195mph.................I thought I was witnessing history being made

i can't believe this thread is still going, wow
i started it over a year ago and havn't checked it since

it is extremely off, my counting

i did it with a g-tech and my 500E with a g-tech, i can't remeber exactly what the 300SEL was, but i remember it was somewhere between 9 and 10 seconds

my 500E did a 5.64 0-60 and a 14.1 1/4 mile with the g-tech

W202 times...

Our 1998 C230 was "rated" by MB for 0-60mph in 10.x seconds. Last summer at the strip, we ran most runs in the 8.5-8.6 range, much quicker than MB wrote in their brochure. I wasn't too surprised, as MB does tend to be a little wonky with their quoted times.

My friend Kevin has a 1998 C280 with the M112 six, but it's hp is rated the same as the M104. He does have the advantage of the five speed auto and 3.07 final drive, but struggled with launching his car. He didn't have ASR engagement problems like an AMG car, but his car seemed to bog a little off the line. He still ran mostly 7.5-7.7 despite his problems. The car really pulled well past the 1/8th mile mark, and obviously the "open road" is an MB's real strength. He got one great launch with some wheel spin and good hook up after that, and if I remember right, it was close to 7.2 or so.

Our 1995 C36 ran mostly 0-60 in the low to mid sixes, again depending on launch. (The C230 takes NO skill, as it lacks the ability to raost it's tires... ) My wife had the best launches and when loading the heck out of the tranny, it would break into the high fives, but those runs were rare. 6.3 was repeatable.

The C230 runs into it's 210 km/h speed limiter.

Does anyone have the published stats for the '93 600sel and the 93 sl600? I understand that one of the car magazines did a review/road test of the 600 sel when it came out, is anyone aware of what magazine it was?

Thanx in advance.

The original poster asked for top speeds of older models. Gotta chime in with my bahn burner.

1985 230TE 5 speed (123). Top speed is a massive 111 MPH.

Michael, the E500, 5.1 SECOND. Was that at a track or G-TECH PRO ? This is very hard for us on the west coast to calculate. Every track out here could care about 0 to 60. I've found the G-TECH PRO to be very accurate.
Does anyone know of a radar device that can be purchased for this purpose ?
Do you race your E500 ? I hope you do, I call it educating the masses. Dan Smith, Oregon
