blasted RESONANCE VALVE, intake manifold

I can say NOTHING good about any intake manifold RESONANCE VALVE.

IMO: They are all over priced, weak - failure prone trash.

What is your opinion and solution for these ??

well wish I could find one to cut out 1999 m104.
The valve I thought was a resonance valve is for idle.

Mine seems fine I guess. It does make a noticeable difference on low end pull in high gears. And if it's not working it most probably due to the vacuume line being loose or the ovr dead.

I do not know what issue you are having but I have only replaced a handful of these over the years. Have always used factory parts. The vast majority last for a very long time. Are you sure that you are not having a wiring harness issue.
As far as whether you should keep it or not I can say with no doubt that it makes a tremendous difference in engine output. I have tuned a stock engine with and with out and can say that there is no way that I would remove it from the vehicle.

At least 30 with a broken shaft or flap, in the last year.

I agree, I have not found a delete/modification that works (yet).

Are you having repeat failures? Or 30 individual cars.

it is the black box between apair of 3 ports of intake manifold, it is screwed with 4 bolts... near the intake pipe, which is going over the valve cover to the oter side....
it looks like this:

Jay, I thought that AMG ditched the valve on the C36?!? It's also my understanding that they did the same on the C43 since both of these cars are lighter, have lower gears and are modded and aimed more for top-end only performance? I agree it is better to have the valve but I thought that AMG ditched it on both engines to help the manifold breath a little better on the top-end? Was this something that only later C36s and all C43s had done? Or was it only done to the C43s? Or was it not done to any of them and I'm just reading nonsense on the web?
Regards, Eric

All m104 Amg hfm have the flap. And as far as I know the 43 retains the flaps in its manifold.

What does it do when it dies? Does it throw a code or what happens?

I think, only V-type engines may employ resonance intake manifold to broaden torque curve.

The flaps on the v6 and v8 actually physically change the runner length which in turn changes the resonance along with it as well as air speed.
On the m104 it's just resonance to enhance cylinder filling. Runner length remains the same.

I had my Amg weighed at 2 different scales and they were only 10kg apart. But end result is the car weighs 1620 with me in it and empty on fuel and no jack or spare tire which alone is abt 25kg. So light it is not. For its size and rear seat space and the tiny boot it has the car is a porker with flying colors. As for shorter gearing. Well it has same gear ratios as the w124 e500. So it's tall on gears as well.

Well, a 500E does have 2.82 gears and a C36 has 2.87 gears, but "Tall" is a relative term when you are talking to a guy who's 400E and E420 are sporting 2.24 gears.
