It's possible that it's an original AMG Hammer, but I'd want some proof if I were buying it. Also, it says it needs engine work...it would cost a fortune to work on that engine today as it's essentially custom built. But, for the right person, it would be really, really cool!

I don't know anything about the car... but im a fan of the body kit... and..5.9 litres, WOW. Im sure that w124 would haul. Then again, they say it needs engine work... so you might have to end up hauling it (hahaha... yea I know... it wasn't funny)

....motor appears just a tad smaller & similar to an 6.0L Renn mod

if it were running as engineered and the owner's facts and figures are accurate...it would definitely be an E500 killer, AMG'd 55/32/36/42 etc. cars too!

in its current state though, an A-Class would most probably stomp all over it.

Is '86 the first year of the W124?

BEWARE!! This guy makes my spider-sense tingle.

There is not the amount of info in the description that you would expect from a "real" enthusiast. That garage looked like a two-bit dealer's chop shop and that sure looks like fresh paint??

Okay, so the facts are that M-B Europe special ordered about a dozen AMG 500E/E500 conversions over the years at customer's requests. They were badged as E60's, not 500E's. They had a stroked M119 for 6.0 liters (5956 cc), not 5.9. They could not go over 200 mph which means this goofus hasn't tried it. I know of two imported to North America and have corresponded with one owner of this very special vehicle. He would be quite offended by this amatuerish copy.

Yes, I am upset.

Yes, '86 was year numero uno for the W124, BTW. I dunno about a 5.9L motor-wasn't aware that particular dimension had been done by Aufrecht and the boys....Dean's right. But didn't they also do a 6.5 motor?? Bbut in ANY case that motor will be wicked $$$$ to repair.

Speed claims seem a bit ambitious for a 6.0 car...get a grip (they didn't mention a Kleeman blower & nitrous), more likely they read a favorable review of a 6.5 car somewhere, or are fishing for an idiot with cash to burn.

Dean, did you note the year? It's not a wide-body 500-it's an early car we're talking about here (but Thanks for the info on the 6.0 M119 conversions-that was new to me

If it's legit and is a real Hammer, why do they claim such limited production? There were many more Hammers. Not a lot, but more than they claim.

Beware.

Inspirational Pics for you!
Do you guys remember this post?
Well I have talked to the owner or at least one of the owners of this car.
To refresh your memory the car is an 86 and it is an original hammer. The car was made for the head of AMG at the time, and it was in the 86 Chicago auto show. I think I rember the guy telling me that the car will do 180 or 190 I dont rember. I may be able to go see the car during TG, if I do I will take some pics. I rember the guy saying that he sold the car to his brother. The car is original and I do believe him.

Super 300E

I agree this may be the real thing. I saw this car a while back on the Kulh motorsports webpage. This indeed was the silver early Super 300E peeling out with all the smoke. While looking through the auctions pics I noticed the Kuhl decal on the top of the windsheild. Since then they have painted the impact strips, mirrors, trim, fixed the front AMG airdam, added flat hood-star and 18in Monoblock 2s. Looking at all the old pics I can now see why the engine needs some work...someone had Fun

Question Is it all there...

If you look at the terrible pictures it makes you wonder if there is only half a car! Why not show some rear and right side views as the other car, a C36, that is also being auctioned by the same person. I agree, they are looking for someone with a bootleg of extra cash to throw away!!

YIKES...I got carried away with the obvious attempt to mimic an E500 that I didn't even notice the car was listed as a 1986 model.

As best I can tell from those awful pictures, this car doesn't have body-colored wheels (the ones shown are also a newer type and not correct for the year) or body-colored grille with matching stand-up hood star. Also, the passenger's outside mirror was deleted on the real Hammer. I can't even see if it has the ducktail spoiler? Finally, the Hammer had the black bumper strips whereas this one is painted the same color as the bumper covers to mimic a more modern vehicle.

Subman, the links to the dealer in your earlier thread are not longer working. Did you save any of those pictures? If so, could you post them here so we can take a better look??

Aside from the the guy's top speed claims, his power claims of 450 hp and under 12 sec. quarter mile times from the so-called "5.9" liter engine are contrary to AMG's numbers. Their 6.0 liter conversion of M-B's M117 engine for the Hammer was rated at 365 hp in emissions form, 400 lb-ft of torque, and ran the quarter mile in 13.5 sec. Top speed of 180 mph, BTW.

IMHO, if it's a Hammer it ain't original!

All those things except for the side mirror deletion were on the car, until the Car was updated to look more modern. But from The pics I have of that car the black trim, standup star, wheels and duck tail are all there. ..

I'd have to agree, based on the pictures of what the car looked like before, that it WAS a Hammer.

What is it's pedigree now that it has been "modernized" and the engine "needs work"? What value does it have to the collector OR the enthusiast?

What a shame...

Dean-

the value now may be as a conversation piece or fancy paperweight for the living room ...

..or the carcass may be pieced to those whom wish to step up their W124's a bit
