Redline kills manuals that have yellowed metals in the synchros. It has little to do with being too slick. They make a manual lube specifically for yellowed metals in boxes because it has a few additives that have been lost throughout the years. I run Amsoil in all of my cars, since I know the local dealer, and I will say it's good stuff. I've put 30k HARD miles on my Z through all driving conditions (auto-x to a sunday drive and everything in between a street car sees) and when I changed to CV's in the rear, everything still looked as new as when I rebuilt the diff.

In general, I like Amsoil products, but I greatly dislike their pyramid marketing scheme, and I also dislike some of their marketing tactics. For example on some of their ATF ratings, they say their universal ATF is "recommended" for this whole long string of applications. However, the ATF is has not actually been certified nor approved by any of those sanctioning bodies (example - they say it meets all these Mercedes 236.x specs, but that's Amsoil's claim, MB never tested or approved the fluid). Amsoil purchases Mobil synthetic base stocks and then adds their own proprietary additive package. I'm none too happy with Mobil either, as their marketing monkeys have royally screwd up their product line over the past few years, but that's a different discussion.

Anyway, rants aside, Amsoil is still good stuff. I tend to prefer Red Line but the Red Line products are often significantly more expensive than Amsoil (assuming you do the Amsoil preferred customer purchase thingy). The white paper was interesting, there are obviously a number of lubes you'd want to avoid (Lucas and Royal Purple in particular).

It's here.

The diff is back and I just need to throw it back together. I also remade the rear diff mount to correct the angular miss-alignment and to get the subframe some clearance from the fuel tank line.

I have the car all back together and running well. No burnouts until I get back from South Carolina. I don't want to break anything before I go so the videos will have to wait another month.
