Tom, Guido's right: to each his own. You, however, might like what was right for me. I went with the Evo II rims that were OEM for the E500 Limited Edition cars that were sold in Switzerland only. Bekker's has 'em. They're beautiful. 8.25 x 17" with 35mm offset. I mounted 245/45-17 tires on them front and rear. There is a SLIGHT ride penalty, but it is well worth it. I haven't gotten any more or less stoplight challenges since I put them on!

Daveb12, 8 grand would sure be a low entry fee into one of these cool cars, but I would be prepared to spend a lot of time and money making them right. For me, the pride of ownership I feel comes from both driving it and maintaining it as a piece of automotive history. It ain't exactly like maintaining a Honda. I would expect either car to be a restoration project, not a daily driver.

That's about what it would take....

Just thought someone might want the real thing instead of that Japanese 6 disc unit. And yes, it was gone through at Becker's and is in their box. Some folks (me included) just like the real German stuff better. Lemme know if someone (Tom?) needs it....

I suppose you are right Mark

When I was a kid just out of high school in '61, My dad had a '59 DeSoto. He took me to the local car dealership to ask his guy if he had a sedate solid convertible for his kid to buy for his first car. I wanted a 55 or 57 Chevy convertible with a V-8 that I could dismantle and rebuild with trips and other goodies available at the time to soup it up.

Since dad was signing the note, he got to pick the vehicle. I ended up with what looked like a boat on wheels. A 1956 DeSoto Adventurer Convertible. It was White with Gold colored side inserts, a gold leather top and interior, real gold-plated hupcaps and the same push-button automatic as my dads 4 door boat. I didn't bother to look under the hood and neither did dad - THANK GOD. It came standard with a Chrysler Hemi sporting dual quads. Although it looked like it would take a week or so to do the quarter mile, it walked Birds, Vettes, Avantes and everthing else "Hot" at that time. I was forever hooked on the Wolf in Sheeps clothing look.

You got any pics of those EVO II's on your vehicle?

Tom

allenjdmb 10 disc changer

Hi Allen! I would be interested if you have the mounting bracket and the rug case that slides over the unit. Does it have the MB logo on the unit and what is the part number? I will email you a pic of the bracket as it is too big to post here.

Tom

Note: I tried to email using this forum and it would not copy. Ping me at tom@aba-inc.com and I will send it to you

Tom,

Scroll down on page three of the Eurotunerfest thread and you'll see my car in the middle of a group, in a shot posted by dcraig.

Eurotunerfest at Willow Springs 11/25/01

If anyone can give me instructions (**again!**) on attaching images to posts, I'll try to attach a better image.

Or look at:

http://members.tripod.lycos.nl/Merc.../pagestart.html

and find the page on the E500 LTD.

Thumbs up Starmark

Say, lets not sell the Starmark extended warranty program short! A comparison in Car and Driver's January 2002 issue showed that MB and Porsche shared honors for offering their extended warranty on cars up to 8 years old.

Most of the others were only good for 4 years. Acura would go up to 6 years, BMW 5 years, Cadillac 4 years, and Mazda only 3 years!

Shows you who has confidence in their product. :p

I know I might be late on this topic but whatever you do aviod the E500 from Rochester NY

I looked into the car and its just not worth the price because it not kept properly and there are too many rust spots if u look carefully at it.

The seller (larry) is a nice guy but the car just doesn't warrant the price.

Ren
