you either use CAS or trigger wheel
nissan's rb series engines (SR & CA prob do as well??) use them standard, from what i gather they're better than using a trigger wheel

Picked up the wheels yesterday. They were all repairable & balanced up fine

I have hit the seller up for half the repair bill so am now just awaiting an outcome? $490 they cost Part of this was for boring out wheel centres as AUDI wheels have a narrower hub centre.

Also picked up front brake upgrade parts. They were a steal & a half at least.

Car goes in for rego inspection on 15th Dec, then back to workshop for finish of everything. Still no idea on when it will be ready to bring home unfortunately.

The 18 x 8.5 wide, ET38 wheels fit with about 2-3mm clearance of strut As opposed to 17" rims, the 18's clear strut just a little more, as they move up & away from strut the greater (higher) the rim diameter. Obviously tyres will have to be stretched so I'm guessing, 235/40R18 max? I won't know til' I get car home & fit a tyre to one of the wheels & check both front/rear hubs for clearance. I'm advised the backs will be fine. I have seen some wide wheels on the rears of these 30e's. Don't now how they fitted them on

Concerning the front hubs fitment, you'd think they would rub on the guards but fitting just the wheel gives little indication of that. The biggest drama now is settling for the right 'ride height' so they don't rub on turns & bottom out.

I really would like to drop it 50mm but may be a little conservative in this area & drop it the 35mm as planned. My paranoia is due to fact that car in original pics showed 50mm drop & it rubbed guards, bottomed out you name it with just 18 x 8's with ET35

Lips are rolled already. I think guards will need a little more stretch though & no, car is same as it was weeks ago. Let's say I will not be recommending these turkeys to anyone, PERIOD! They may do good work but absolutely hopeless time managers! A joke. If I didn't trust their work I would have given them the flick long ago.

In the end I want the job done right.

Get this!

O'Briens Glass won't come out to you fit a screen They do not make house calls, or workshop calls for that matter, for Mercs & Beemas!

You have to take the car to there designated branch! That's great when car is off the road & I want one fitted ASAP, for rego So now I have to source a rear screen in record time. So far a wrecker wants $1300 for one 300E's, driveable & with couple of months rego, come up on EBay for around a $1000-$1200. There's one starting @ $400 but it's half way across the country so out of the question. Point is Their cheaper than a screen. What a laugh......I'm beginning to get a little fed up man

Tuners are a different breed. You're working hard and spending a ton of money to turn a Mercedes into a rice burner. Nice plan.

Haha....very funny, but a ricer is a stock Jap performance car, not a high-powered modified car lke a Merc so, go learn the difference for a start & if that's your best comment ignoramus, don't post on my thread again. Or anyone else's here that is modifying there W124's for that matter.

If you'd even bothered to read the early part of thread, like the 1st page, you'd have known the car was already turbocharged by previous owner dude & I was merely "getting right" what he had stuffed up. This build is a re-vamp, NOT a new 'plan', as you commented.

I actually have a "rice burner" and it's cool as hell. Maybe it was a compliment? But if you really want to transform your Mercedes into it, you'll need a rotary engine and a manual transmission. So, you're not even close. Sorry...

Sorry...? Sorry for what??? I have no intention of putting a rotary or ANY OTHER Jap engine in this car of mine so WHY the references? It is a genuine Merc build!!! If I wanted a ricer I would get one

What's with all the hate here all of a sudden.

No it wasn't a compliment at all! Also. I wasn't knocking 'ricers', I have one & I luv rotary's! Have no intention of challenging a rotary! I was offended at the rediciulous suggestion that I am turning my 300E into a rice burner! Does everyone compute? Bout' time sensitive people grew up on here

Anyway. Got fed up with the bull**** to be quite frank! Some good news. Have booked O'Briens to come out to workshop after negotiating with branch close to me & head office?, explaining that screen is already out (hardest part done already). Booked for this friday but need confirmation still from Manager but, is looking good. $618 too. Pheeeeww!

EDIT: Booked in for Tuesday week as they want a more experienced fitter to do the job. Well at least it'll be guaranteed Also, these rear screens have a high failure rate when attempting to remove. I did read members have had success if heating sealing compound prior to removal but, if you attempt to even pry the screen off as it sits, it chips/cracks immediately.

By your logic, period tuners such as AMG, Brabus, Turbotechnics, Mosselman, who modified the M103/M104 124 variants were merely turning out "rice burners" in the late eighties ?
