Question New Euro Headlights for 300E

Hey im just wondering if anyone has gotten these, or if they look good to have. In the AD it's true about the lights getting yellow, but a little under $500 is pricey .

So if anyone has gotten these or thinks they'd be worth it leave a post

Thank You

Bekkers Euro Headlights

If they are from bekkers, theya re the good ones.

Everyone will tell you the Euro's are worth it for the light pattern, night visibility, and look over the U.S. Versions.

I want them for the look mostly, to keep with what mercedes originally designed into the car, but since you get the benefit of better night time vision, I take that as the biggest benefit.

I'd go for the Euro's any day of the week. Right now I'm doing my brakes and saving for new wheels, then I'll go for my euro's.

This is probably one of the only posts on the forum where there is no disagreement - the Euro lights are probably the best investment you can make on an early w124. More light on the road, sheds 5 years off the appearance. Call Phil at FastLane - this site carries them for a lot less. Do a search for a whole library of threads on installation, aiming, light output, bulb choices, wiring, European manual adjusters for inside the car, etc. Also, click my link for the 300E at the bottom of this post to see them on a car! (The plastic grill insert has been painted matte black, which also cleans up the front end look.)

Euro lights

Ashman,

Let me know where you're anticipating getting your E500 euro headlights. I am thinking about doing the same mod.

euro lights

chris17h- welcome to mercedes shop!

do a "search" at this site on euro lights.
you will have hours of reading and hundreds of pictures to look at.

it's the best money i have EVER spent on any car!!!!

the picture below my name is of my "city lights" and clear bulbs in my clear bosch turn signal covers, but thats another highly discussed and debated topic here.

BEWARE this place is addicting.

Is there a real asthetic diffrence between the 95 e500 lense and a 95 e320 lense?? I thought it was the headlight unit on the e500 that had a chrome look to it or is this only on euro versions.

momentum- ALL 500e/e500 cars have driving lights as part of the headlight system.
yes the driving light is "chromed" or "silvered" in appearance.

also the is another auxilary set of fog lights in the front bumper.

all 300e/e320/400e/e420 have a fog light as part of the headlamp sytem.

How much would these lights cost if we ordered them from this site compared to the nearly 500 that bekkers charges.

Guys,

A couple of my own observations:

The 94/95 E320/E420 US headlight units are sold as 'sealed beam'. In reality there is just a screw on the outside corner of each which when loosend allows seperation of lens and body assembly.

I Europe, the lenses are available seperately. I bought a pair of Euro lenses for my 95 E320. The light pattern is a wee bit different, but not worth the money or the installation time IMHO.

There is a tangible difference between the E500 and the E320, however. The 500 light is better in every way, appearance, performance, etc. However, it might be more tricky to wire such a unit into the E320/ E420 series.

farrukh

re: 500E euro lights

the lens on the 500E/E500 euro lights employ a driving light pattern as oposed to a foglight pattern on the smaller of the 2 lights in the assembly. this due in part to the fact that intergrated foglights exist on the car under the front bumper.

the driving light that is integrated into the headlight unit is activated with the high-beams and does not have a seperate switch.

Indeed... :-)

Does anyone consider it worthwhile excercise to create a switch to operate the driving lights independent of the high beams? On occasion, I have wanted more light on the road, but without employing high-beams.

Hey Guys . I've just established a contact in germany.
I'm going to be purhasing Euro lights for my 500E. If we get enough guys this guy wil give us a break for the ture European hella's. From my experience there better than the bosch ones.

If anyone is interested serious inquirys only.

I will be selling my 500E lights< there 1993 I'm going to be upgrading my hood and girll to a1994 so I'll be purchasing later 500E euro. Need to make a decent amount to cover cost on the euros. For you regular 300E/300CE. My lights will and work great on your applications.

Thanks Guido

hey guido- i'm just curious, from your experience WHY are hella's better than bosch??

i'm not looking to start something, but what is your basis for that statement?

i believe either choice would NOT disapoint anyone. both were oem spec for mercedes.
i [personally] would not buy a "off" brand because of quality concerns. [no offense phil @ parts shop]

imho

Well Pete. My friend had the Hella's euros on his 500E. The illumination seems better. I'm not knocking bosch at all. Just seems the spread pattern on the hella display more thats all.
I guess its just preference.

They used hella more in racing application. Since I'm into motor sports I favor hella's.

Thanks for your reply Peter.
