2.5 16 valve, need more power
Hi there. I have a 190e 2.5 16 valve. I have it about 3 years now and love it but Im just wondering if theres any way of uping the power slightly without spending huge money. maybe an extre 20- 30 bhp, is there any aftermarket camshafts available, like fast road spec or something.???? also did anybody hear of any one runing this car on carbs, say twin 50 delerotos or webers would there be much of a power gain if i got a custom inlet manifold made up.?????? thanks

ill give u a hint, but first i hope ur handy with using a multi-meter and resistors.
locate the engine temp plug, i think its on the back of the engine intake manifold side. its a black plug round and somewhat large. unplug it and u should see it has 4 pins. take the multi-meter set to continuity and check for grounds (check on the connector and not the engine temp sensor). the wires are arranged in a diagonal pattern, one ground is diagonally faced by another ground. anyway now ur left with 2 wires to confirm, first unplug the 2 large connectors on the EZL unit located on the left fender. place one of the millimeter probes in one of the unconfirmed wires of the engine temp connector, and start testing for continuity on the wires of the ezl connectors. long story short once u locate it, u would have found the temp feed line to the EZL which is the timing control box, splice the covering of the engine temp plug connector and cut that feed wire. reconnect with a 1Kohm resistor (u can try higher or lower like 0.7kohm or say 1.2kohm, keep in mind the more kohms u add the more timing advance u give, in the end it might ping) out of my experience 1kohm is a good start point, but i bet it can take 1.3kohm. now its on to the other wire which we now know is the temp feed to the injection ECU, cut this wire and reconnect with a 0.4kohm resistor, dont go to high on ohms here or car will run too rich, 0.4kohm is fine u can try 0.6 as max. any way, i think u will be impressed, and it really is worth the trouble. once u have done that and ur ok with the values, u can connect wires to short the resistor and since voltage takes the least resistance route, when this wire is connected its as if the resistor isnt there, and car will be stock. u need one for each of the wires u worked on. any way sorry for the not so clear walkthrough. hope u try it.

Jay, shouldn't he also read the whole "Tuning with CIS" sticky if he hasn't already?

sure Eric,
it would help him alot. but some how i think ppl get worried abt how long that thread is I just wont one of the 2.5-16 owners to try what i have been saying for so long. cause on this car it makes alot of diff. that engine has gr8 response to this trick.
