That's just a standard 300CE with the early M104 24V.....nothing to see here.

That's weird......when the seller asked Merc Spares for parts. He gave them the VIN # & they stated to him it was an AMG. They must be mistaken obviously. This ****s me because there are a few CE sixes for sale here. Also SEC 500's even a 560SEC. Now that's what I am talking about.....

I'll let this mistaken guy know the obvious then so he changes the add perhaps?

How then do you tell if a car is AMG hybrid? Russian sight simply states couple of unknown codes. 238; 256???

This seller (link below) states it as one. A 500SEC with 5.6L engine fitted.

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Mercedes-Benz-500-SEC-AMG-560-Hybrid-Coupe-Loud-Fast-/270587971589?cmd=ViewItem&pt=AU_Cars&hash=item3f004cc805

There is also an SEC badged as a 560?

Facts would be very appreciated

Regards,
Tim.

U.S. spec w126 coupes are 560SECs rather than 500s. I'm not sure about that last link, looks kinda funky....

Thanks. Looks like some of these 500SEC's may be AMG's fitted with 560 engines?

This 560SEC for sale here however is from UK according to the Russian VIN site

I am looking @ it with interest. This is why I am pressured to know the difference

Cheers,
Tim

The Russian VIN decoder is not extremely useful when trying to figure out if its a real AMG. Keep in mind that at this time, AMG was an outside tuning company not owned by Mercedes. The Russian site is good for the original options the car had, but not much eslse. The cars were sent from the Benz factory over to AMG for modification. The AMG modifications were not in any way tied to the Mercedes VIN.

That "Hybrid" SEC is just another butchered backyard mechanic job. Someone took the engine from a late 560SEC and put in in a 500SEC. Nothing else on that car is AMG. The only motor option offered on the 500SEC AMG was the 6.0L "Hammer", and of course the stock 5.0L. There may have been a 5.6L, but I don't think those were common. The 560SEC AMG had two different tuned 5.6L options as well as the 6L.

Thanks JohnM How do you explain this though......from seller

It has AMG tailshaft, wheels, exhaust, door trim "leopard on merc symbol" with Hybrid logo and on top of that we have had it to a merc mechanic (Mr Benz) and they have confirmed the "hybrid" we have is an AMG.. The person we bought it off, bought it off his boss which had imported it as an AMG merc. It is set up to go fast and handle well, it kicks back easily at 180 and will keep pulling (not that we advise you do that...) If you hold foot flat top gear isnt reached until 200 (but as I put in advert, rear suspension does need redoing). As soon as you start it you will understand, the note is unlike any standard merc around. Husband has had a stroke which is why we are selling it... Cheers

Sounds like a load of BS to me.

AMG tailshaft (???)
wheels (anyone can find those)
exhaust (same as above)
door trim w/hybrid logo (they never made a HYBRID AMG, so that's just made up!)

If it really came from AMG they wouldn't have paid for an engine upgrade (the most expensive AMG mod) and NOT do anything else. The bits on there are the most easily sourceable stuff on eBay. What it should have if its a real AMG SEC....

AMG Front + Rear Bumpers, AMG Side Skirt, AMG Spoiler? (Has none of these)
AMG steering wheel
AMG white gauge cluster?

The interior door panels are also butchered custom. Seats are trashed. Nasty body rot. It's even got the fatty US spec bumpers. This car screams backyard "custom", which is why he calls it a "Hybrid AMG". No engine pics either? This car is worth $3000US TOPS.

OK. This may be an AMG. Whether it's fitted with a 3.4L engine? Phut. Was interesting @ the least though

Interesting. 9/10 times when you see the "Brabus" badge in the front grille like that, you know its probably not legit. Plus the Brabus engines usually had a red valve cover. But the plastic cover is missing.

I would see if theres any numbers on the block that can be referenced. To make sure that the 3.4L hasn't been blown up and swapped for the 3.0L/24V.

Fair enough. That's EBay for you I guess Sorry. I'm in the learning stages & sometimes my questions I can't find answers to too easily. Thanks again

True. I'll leave it @ that.
