Hehe-glad it worked out. Glad I'm in the insurance business so I don't have to go thru this!

Us New Englanders do attend quite a few track events-are you up for that with your new garage queen? Interested in road-tripping out to Starfest in indy (8/02)?

I'm glad you finally got this wrapped up!

I've been following this since last December, and I was kind of convinced you would get frustrated and settle on something else to get this behind you.

You didn't state the year of the E500 you purchased, but I'm assuming it's a '94 since it's an E500.

Are you gonna take some pictures, inside and out, or the car and post them?

Photos

Baby pictures are on the way. I shot a whole roll of film at the dealership to make sure they wouldn't damage the car in transit.
I don't have anywhere to host the photos though.

I was very tempted to settle- and for my own stress level and mental health (sleepless nghts, grinding teeth - really) I probably might have. But I was determined to make this hard for them- or the next person would suffer just as much.

Most of all I'm happy to tell you about my experiences so you can consider what happened to me before selecting your insurance company.

Congratulations Erase

Sounds like you came out ahead after all. I would still sue Commerce for not settling immediately as you still had to pay for a vehicle for 10 months without having access to it. Sue them under GLC 93A. It is a Massachusetts law that says if the defendent is found guilty (intent to defraud), they will have to pay treble damages, court costs and legal fees. From your side of the story, it certainly sounds like they intended to defraud.

Now that this sad tale has a final chapter and the book is about to close, will you please give me the name of the damn bone yard where the former ride is RIP so I can acquire the cd changer and bracket.

thanks!

I got another already. Hey, but you can never have too many.

The Green one you mentioned had dropped last time I saw- a great deal for someone who has green as his or her favorite color. That car sounds like a steal. It was originally offered fo $50,000.

If I were the seller- I'd keep it. Besides...he'll miss it the second it rolls away.

Erase- what condition were the wheels after the unfortunate accident? Are they chrome 8 hole wheels?

I'm interested in picking up the 5 wheels if the car is being parted out....can you pass on a contact for us?

Only the engine compartment and one fender

most of the wheels were toast. I wouldn't advise using them. All 4 doors completely crushed in and roof buckled.

I'd like both horns (in front of radiator/condenser, and under the front bumper).

Please advise.

Thanks,
:-) neil

thanks for the reply and let us know what specs you have now...seems like you got a '94 E500 but I didn't pick up what color combo it was

regards and glad to hear all turned up on the upside for you

It is time to buy a specified value insurance policy.

Or ensure there's a "Replacement Value" rider on the policy

We buy our insurance through a group plan, so the rates might be wonky, but on any decent car we've bought (new or used) we bought the "anti-deprecation" rider.

On the C230, as it was new, we were guaranteed the original price paid for the car for 48 months from the policy date.

On the E300, as it was used, they would only go 30 months, but still good protection.

The added protection was only $60 annually. Cheap. But, as I said, we buy through a group so don't go on my rate experience. For the two late-model Mercedes' and our 1988 Mazda 626 we pay $1250 a year for ALL three cars, with $2M liability and all-perils coverage, even on the Mazda.

This is a good time to scope out an insurance policy to ensure that this terrible experience is NOT repeated.
