dont mix it up AMG offered 3 versions of the M104:

M104 with KE_Jetronic and 3.4 displacement 272hp @ 6500

M104 with KE_Jetronic and 3.6 displacement 292hp @ 6500

M104 with HFM Motronic and 3.6 displacement 272hp @ 5750

the 3.6 KE engine has 300Nm only at 3500rpm
the 3.6 HFM engine has 300Nm already at 1500rpm! like a CDI

the 3.6 KE engine has 220Nm at 2000rpm
while the 3.6 HFM has already 320Nm at 2000rpm
This is the big difference between the engines...

Seems to me that either or both the manifold of the CIS and head are better for top end power. I always said CIS is a gr8 system and can make loads of power

But yeah my C36AMG has loads of low down pull, its impressive! and still the engine goes sorta mental over 4000RPM till the limiter.

would be nice to see how a CIS 3.6 feels after 4000RPM especially that it doesnt have as much pull as the HFM below that

As for the 3.4 W124, well that car should have the 3.69 diff on it, vs a 2.87 in mine and the W124 has abt 100kg less weight so im sure its as fast as a C36 and in an uphill race it might have the edge

@Jay:

the diff ratios of 3.4 AMG are 3.69 if 5-spd, 3.27 if 4-spd.
but it doesn't help anyway.

the torque advantage means you have no need to wait for high revs to get the power.
the 3.6 hfm has 195kw from 5000rpm till 6500rpm.
I think you are faster with the C36!

I'm guessing you would have to use a m104 3.0 block
but what internals?

you take the crank from 350 diesel and shortes piston rods

if you make a bigger bore and take bigger pistons, you can go to 3.6...

Do you have to do anything to the ecu to compensate for the extra 0.4l displacement? I am running cis currently so I don't know if that would affect it or not

Does the crank or block have to be modified at all?

And you are saying I can run stock pistons?

Sorry for all the questions just want to make sure I understand you clearly

if you use a std 350 td crank it will need lightening, and dynamically balancing to the new rod and pistons

"some mods improve your car and make it into something it never was, other mods, however, although essentially the same, are not, and make that car a ricer"

if your car isnt shiny, you dont know what you are talking about, remember; paint shine = knowledge. In order to be taken seriously, you should spend all your money on paint, (and get a dyno reading).
Dont forget to polish it often

This. The diesel crank is 16lbs heavier than the next biggest gasser crank.
