Front suspension for W124 Diesel
Well Autocross is coming soon and I just started to test the diesel for auto cross. I know the springs and shocks are just not where they need to be so I am seriously thinking of doing some upgrades. I have narrowed my search to two brands.
The Koni sport (8741-1092SPORT) and the Bilstein sport (24-014700). Does anyone know anything about the differences of these two? I know its a slow diesel but the tighter suspension will help. thanks in advance.

I'd never put anything but bilsteins under my 124. (excepting the Boge SLS rears)

Don't use the Bilstein Sports unless you are also lowering the car (they are shorter to compensate). The Bilstein HD's have the same valving, but are normal length. But I can tell you that just replacing the shocks without doing springs is not going to do anything for your autocross times.

Ah yeah, I should have said I'm doing springs as well. I'm thinking about the H&R Sport springs (29569.2) it lowers the front 1.3" and rear 1.3" as well

H&R/Vogtlands will degrade the ride quality pretty far from stock, but you do get go-kart handling. If the roads aren't perfect where you live...you should look into Eibachs.

yeah, roads are 50/50 for me. I travel a-lot. I mean the suspension crashes all the time when I hit pot holes so I guess it can't be any worse if I do the upgrade. Thanks for the tip on Eibachs. I shall look into that as well.

by the way, how hard would it be to do springs and shocks? I'm still a novice when it comes to this. Does anyone know of a thread where this type of application as been done?

Just finished doing mine with H&R and Bilstein HD's. The drop was more than the advertised 1.3 in the front! This thread may be of interest- Starting at post #23. 124 front control arm bushings and replacement....snag
With the SLS in the rear I can adjust the height. I still need to dial it in. The ride is firm, but not like my BMW 3-series I just sold with 19's and sport suspension You definately need the proper MB spring compressor to do it safely....or it can kill you.
