C124 REPLICA AMG WIDEBODY BUILD

After eighteen+ months, prepaint assembly about complete.
The build was accurately patterned from the only known NOS AMG C124 widebody kit.
All steel except the aero kit...

Looks excellent Ed! Going back to the Red, right? Did you do anything to the cladding? It looks more flush to the body in the pics. That could be the primer distorting depth.

Wow, nice job, Ed. You have to bring that down to some of our GTGs in VA and MD. I'd love to see it first-hand and talk to you about it.

That looks amazing!! I don't remember which thread, but the welding work on those fenders was impressive, very well done!

The body is true to the original pre face lift GEN I..
No widebody C124's were made in the face lift version.
(Unless if by AMG Japan which made stuff that was made no where else !!)

Only deviation is addition of heat extraction louvers in the hood...

Hi Ed, how much did cutting the louvers set you back? I'm thinking of having the same modification done.

Steel to steel is the only body work that is lasting.
Bonding fiberglass, carbon fiber etc eventually will crack at the bonding point due to dissimilar expansion/contraction rates of the two material.

B.J.

Louvers inexpensive panels from EBAY...same seller as below except angled instead of straight:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1-Pair-Straight-Louvered-Panel-Rat-Rod-Hood-11-louvers-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem4159f52f38QQitemZ280682114872QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccesso riesQQvilZ1

Panels were installed upside down and backwards...

Hood sheetmetal is thin and easily distorts under the heat of the welding.
You'll need to reinforce the underside of the hood with sheetmetal strips to maintain the stock hood contour...
Good bit of labor involved getting the contours correct.

Ed A.
