Megasquirt...V12 M120 ...Idle valve or Throttle Screw?

Hey Guys,

I`ve been having a think about this one for a couple of days now.

I need to get the massive M120 to idle. The V12 never had an idle valve, instead the throttle actuators would open slightly allowing more air in.

Now I have a couple of options, add a bypass valve (must be a stepper)... either one or two but I assume air must be fed to both sides of the engine.

or

Use the throttle stops on my manual throttle bodies, just as you would with carbs. To me that seems an easier way forward, chepaer too. I agree on colder days I may have to give it a bit more air and wait until the car is fully warm.

..... I could explore this route and always install a bypass valve if I find it to be required.

Any thoughts?

Just put manual stops on. I do this and it works fine. In the winter it takes an minute or two to get the idle set but I have the idle set around 800rpm warm. You could easily set the idle at 1000 rpm warm and really never have a problem.

Thanks, that has put me at ease. What engine did you do it on? I take it you went through a similar issue?
