looking for a 500E
I am looking for a 500E in as good a condition as I can find/afford, w/ under a 100,000m. I live in the SF Bay area, but will travel for the right car. Unmodified is better for me - longevity is more important than performance.

Check the SF Chron.
I saw one listed yesterday in either the Sac. Bee or the SF Chron. Sorry I can't be more specific, the papers have been recycled.

Hemmings Motors has a E500 somewhere down in Florida in the Jan 2002 issue...the Jan/Feb MB Star mag. has 3 1992s for sale...2 Silver and one Medium grey with like 50K miles on them....one is modded pretty heavily but the other two are stock. Good luck and let us know how you make out....and good choice!!!

Greetings Tom,
Just wanted to suggest importing a car from Europe. Just try www.autopool.ch. It's a swiss page. There are currently 6 limited edition, fully MB serviced E500s, all of them with less than 100k miles, all of them below your 29'000 figure except for a 30'000 miles gem, listed at : 29'000$! I am pretty sure than whatever shipping, and putting it to US norms might cost, it is more than covered by the usually flawless condition of the cars themselves. Ah, small detail, remember that you get the Euro spec. autobox with Economy/Standard (1st gear start + higher rpm upchanges) modes. Drive safe Manu 1991 500e 1963 Chevy Impala SS |

looking for a 500E
Hanu, the web page address did not work for the Swiss MBs. Please post it again.
Actually, I've met a guy, Barry Taylor, who imports and federalizes MBs. It is about $9000 US to bring it up to CA standards. Thanks, Tom |

Tom, here is a sister site link to the one posted above, http://www.autoscout24.de/home.asp?language=eng.
You might want to do a search in the archives on the gentleman's name you mentioned in your posting, he does not have a great reputation with all he does business with. Good Luck with your searching... |

Greetings Tom,
Sorry for the long time to reply. I've double-checked the url and it is correct. The thing is, it doen't work when you click on it inside the message board, I have to type it into the adress field of my internet browser for it to work... There might be something you need to add to it in order to access the page from the States...I don't know enough about computers to help on this one... If you can post an e-mail adress I'll send you a Word attachment with the cars data. Here are the urls again : www.autopool.ch or |

Do yourself a favor and walk...no run...away from Barry Taylor Enterprises. Do a search here and find out more about Mr. T. and AMG West if you haven't checked out his 'shop' then do and you'll see what I mean. However...if you do enjoy taking it up the butt; then by all means give him your money. Buy a US 500E...I'm sure with some time and all our help you'll find the right one. Unless you go to Europe to pick out and inspect one for yourself, you'll most likely be dispointed with the rig-a-morol you'll go thru to get one here and Federalise it for Cali registration. I almost got dupped into buying a Euro C43 from him...long story. Just my 2 cents. |

Hey Tom,
Just to give you a heads up I was just in Seattle and I saw a good 500E at Landmark Motors. Depends on your budget really. The cars been resprayed but overall it doesn't look like any body work was done. They are asking $29K for it and it has 79K miles. I didn't have a PPI done on this car but would highly recommend it for any 500E you look at. I didn't buy because I was particular about the car having original paint. Good Luck
