Actually learning from my data logger.

http://www.powertraincontrolsolutions.com/datalogging.php

So this is mostly about my car but would not be possible without a good data logger. Just love this thing. I ran at the drag strip a couple of weeks ago and did about 5 runs but all were really bad. 1st time out on drag radials and the low rpm full throttle map was really bad. Never tuned in the 2-2500 rpm range at full throttle. Was going pig rich and missing badly until it rolled out a bit and got up around 3k. Data logger was useful because I found that the o2 from my standalone only scales to 10.0 afr. The ego volts were really low though indicating way richer conditions. Did not figure this out until the next day though. So been doing some tuning and getting a fuel mix that works with my current injectors. Did a 3rd gear pull from just under 60-106-7.
So it occurred to me to compare to the drag strip runs. Time from 60-100 and 100-105 and 60-70. The reason for the break up in times was because at the drag strip I am still in 2nd from 60-70. So I was able to compare all this and the actual time from the data points and was really surprised to find that my 3rd gear pull from 70-105 is almost a full second faster a day or two ago than at the drag a couple of weeks ago.
So I start breaking it down and find that at 60-70 I am faster on the drag run of course because I am in 2nd and from 70 on in 3rd. So I can plot all the data from my tcu and my ecu and pull up my timing and afr and mat etc. and find that I was pulling timing about 3 degrees at the drag strip and iat were about 15-20 degrees warmer. Afr was pretty close to the same.
Just love capturing data and being able to learn from it. I am going to add a water temp sensor to the inlet of my intercooler and probably another one at either the exit or after the heat exchangers in front. Or maybe both. I might add an iat sensor at my air filter also to see inlet air temps and boosted temps. Sensors are cheap and I have the channels on the datalogger.
Thinking of a 3 axis g sensor, and a 6 channel egt sensor system also maybe next year.

A 6 channel EGT would be pretty sweet. Are you running sequential injection? After a recent tune-up of my laptop, I've been able to install and run MegaLogViewer. While I'm not able to log any vehicle parameters, it logs pretty much all engine parameters. I've been logging a lot lately myself with the new A2WI/C. Pretty soon I'm gonna attempt to tune my MAT air correction table and its going to be a lot easier being able to datalog.

I have always had logging on my ecu and logging in my tcu. But having it together and the additional channels the logger has is fantastic.

This works like the maestro logger suit, right?

I do not know about the Maestro system. The PCS logger is a touch screen display with logging. It is the same company that makes my transmission control units. It is similar to a Motec display with logging but much, much cheaper. It is not as flashy but very high speed logging and the log viewer on your laptop is top rate. I have one of these in my car and one in a Rally car that is the instrument cluster now. I plan on putting one in my wagon as the instrument cluster also. Besides the logging it has two pwm outputs and quite a few add on features. You can log as much or little info as you want from each source, datalogger channels, tcu, ecu, etc. Set up the speed of logging for each source. It does a lot more that you can read about on the PCS website. 3d boost control, race shocks, as I mentioned before gps, 3 axis acceleration sensor, and egt modules on the CAN bus.
