EVO II Body Kit Installation

Hi, I was wondering if anyone has recently had an EVO II body kit installed (or installed themselves) on their 190E. I have an 86 Euro 190E 2.3 16V and i am looking to buy an EVO II body kit for it, but i would love to take it on myself. Is it possble? My father says that the ground effects are bolt on as well as the spoiler (most likely) but the fender flares are a different story. Are they too much work to cut out the metal in the wheel wells and drill new holes for them? Anyone with any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks

There is someone here who has been doing an evo II kit. he is either on this site, or on www.benzsport.com.

Extensive fender work has to be done. bumpers and all bolt on easily, but fender flares are the killer.

If it were me, and I was competent enough with body work, Hell yeah I'd take it on. If not, I'd rather pay someone to do it for me.

The two that I am aware of are dan16v on this site and the guy that did it all http://www.dje2.com/benzmain.htm

Danial's site is no longer up. He had numerous pictures of his progress .... a lot of body work and painting. Much more than "just bolt on".

Thanks for both of your responses. I was wondering if it is possible to get the entire kit painted from someone else separatly and then bolt on what you can bolt on and if the fenders are too much work have someone do only the fenders. Do you think that sounds resonable or is that just not likely, because i would like to do as much of the work as i can myself , but if there is a large portion of it that takes a professional to do it with out wrecking anything I guess i would have to fork over some more dough.

EVO II?? Did someone say EVO II?? I just got done installing the kit on my 16V and my first comment is: it's not a body kit. it's a body conversion!! This was my first car project, and it took me 6 months working on it nights and weekends. It was a ton of work, and unless you have previous bodyshop experience or are simply insane like me, then you're better off taking it to a bodyshop that knows what they're doing.
To answer you questions, yes, you can have the bumpers and the wing painted by an shop and then install them yourself. In theory, the bumpers, sideskirts, and wing should be bolt on. That's in theory! In reality, though, unless the kit is perfect, the parts won't quite align, and so, won't look the best. That's why bodyshops go through the dry fitting process. they mount all of the parts and grind and fill until everything fits. Then they take it off, paint it, and re-mount it.
The rear flairs are a killer. You have to know what you're doing and have the proper equipment to pull it off. The other thing is that if you just bolt the parts on, you'll have a gap. I went ahead and moulded the fenders on, so that there's no gap. I also moulded the bottoms of the front and rear fenders to the sideskirts, so it looks like one piece. Little things like that really add a lot to the finished product.
Well, if you have any questions at all, feel free to email me. Good luck!

Dan the car is looking Sweet!

You were the one I was thinking of when I remember the extensive work you have done on yours.

Daniel ... Great picture of your car. It looks super. Any progress on the Turbo? I posted some pictures of Priest's car that Alan is installing a Mosselman unit on. Picture Page

I am just about ready to install an SDS engine management system on my 16V. The blower works good, the throttle still sticks.

DANIEL!!!!

Dan that is the hottest 190 i have ever seen. That car is so damn nice. I have my grill painted black too and the emblem and that looks so much better on the black 190's. Those clear blinkers are really nice too. Mad props to Dan for that ride. Take some more pictures of that at different angles I love looking at that car.

As far as that installation goes, I was wondering. How can you be sure that the shop that you take it to is going to do all that work? I mean how do you know that they dont just bolt it on?
And you seem to know what you are doing, so i was wondering how much should I expect to pay for a shop to do that kind of work, if they do it really thorough and go through the process that you did.

Also could you tell me exactly what you did and what each step of the process was because i would love to do that work myself, but I just don't want to get stuck having to buy a *****load of tools and just get stuck in a step that i am really incapable of doing.
-Thanks, Excellent car!

Wiper parked at midnight

Dan16V, In your picture, the wiper arm is parked straight up. Did you do that for the picture only, or is it adjusted to park there always. How do you make that adlustment if so. Thanks, Dave

Dave,
The wiper is set to park in that position. It's very easy to do!
Simply remove the plastic cowling around the wiper then loosen the nut on the wiper motor that holds the linkage on. Next push the wiper blade around until it is vertical then re-tighten the bolt. Run the wiper and see where it ends up. You'll want to adjust it to stop just shy of TDC because when the windshield is wet it will over travel. BTW, since the wiper passes through the center of the windshield twice, it's a good idea to connect the linkage so that the wiper moves toward the driver's side first, so if you hit a puddle of water your view will be cleared first.

Let me know if you have any questions. It's pretty simple!

EVO II kit

I want to purchase a EVO II kit for my 1986 190E but not sure how the rear bumper will fit. Has anyone had prior experience that can offer some advice?

The raceoneusa kits are pretty good quality for their price. Everything 'fits' but there are no mounts on the bumpers. The flares screw on(from the inside) and are easy to trace with a template for. The fenders must be cut but once again it's easy even on your first try. The small section of flare that attach to the rear door are also screwed on. Do that, don't mold them. The fender liners will be disconnected from the edge of the fender in the rear and have be to hammered up to the new seam and spot welded. As for the mounts on the bumper some metal-plastic epoxy can attach the stock bumper mounts onto the aftermarket bumpers. Side skirts are weird. Some have mounts, some don't. Easy either way after you do the bumpers. Wing bolts on, use studs. The front will sit high even if lowered so use r107 strut tower mounts and it will lower the front perfectly with aftermarket springs.
