Can I use a w126 300se tacho in a w123 280E?
Hi all,
I want to fit a tacho into my dash, currently my car has the big clock fitted. I can't find any W123 tachos on eBay, or anywhere, but I have found a W126 300SE set of gauges; MERCEDES W126 SEL,SE 300 DASH CLOCKS | eBay Would the tacho out of this, fit into my dash, and would it work off of my engine? Cheers Frank.

Doesn't anybody know?
I understand that I'm going to have to do some modifying, but has anyone else done it?

Yes the tach should work
Yes the tachometer should work.
I used a tachometer mechanism out of a W126 300se to repair the tachometer in my 280TE that had stopped working. I removed the tachometer mechanism from the w126 cluster and installed it in the w123 cluster instead. Its all working fine, its not a direct replacement as the clock stuff is on the other side on a w126 compared to a w123. Best start with a w123 4 cylinder tachometer and replace and ignore the red line etc. Good luck |

Yes that looks ok
Yes that one should do, but you will need a w123 tach dash hardware as the w126 is different.
Good luck |

Will the speedo match the diff you have? Or are you planning to change the diff and the speedo to the 300se unit?

No, my plan is, to just take the tacho(rpm clock), out of the dash, and fit it into my dash, where it's mean to be, instead of the giant clock that's there now.

Parts of w123 tach needed
Hi,
You need the metal work that holds the tach into the cluster and the clock time adjuster as it is mounted on the other side. And you may need a face too. |
