Not at the minute, it's still in the car.

Do you know how heavy yours is now?

Am interested in why you chose to go with head studs and nuts instead of the bolts Benz used??

the usual. studs give much more consistent torque readings than bolts as you only tighten the nut. in the case of the head, it makes it easier to fit also. and the 12 point nuts are more durable than those spline socket heads.

these studs are also far better made than the 12.9 1970's OEM bolts. the threads are stronger and more accurate and the tensile strength is far greater. as i'm running higher compression and potentially higher chamber temps, I need the best head seal I can get. also higher rpm's mean the bottom end is under more stress. they are only 2 bolt main caps, so again, the best hold possible is a good idea.

i've had the head gasket scanned and pattern made for making copper gaskets. i have a supplier that can now make them in any thickness and any precise bore size for about $100 each.

This project is a little delayed due to extensive experimentation with the chambers and ports.... Lots going on, but likely to be end of may before i have anything to add, so watch this space....

Sorry? I'm using a custom copper gasket. It's exactly the thickness I want, exactly the right bore size, reusable and seals better than the composite gaskets.

odl21 - can I ask further about the clutch? In addition to the pressure plate, are you using the M3 clutch disc? If so - the splined hub happens to match the 5 speed Getrag?

you can use any clutch disc you like to suit your gearbox's input shaft. both the merc and bmw discs are the same diameter. i have a couple of gearbox options for this car that require different discs.

Yes it is. We've modified the chamber shape, flow tested the ports and are experimenting with alternative cams. Will be looking into into different followers also. Also building a second less radical m110 on k-jet with higher compression and vernier cam sprockets to increase overlap and fine tune cam timing. It all takes time.... Expect some updates later in the month though. The engine must be finished and tested by November.

That's awesome! Keep up the great work and keep us posted. There are quite a few of us M110-fans anxiously awaiting the results of your experimentation! Some of us may only dream of such upgrades, others might just follow in your footsteps, so please keep it coming!

Getting cold air and using the k&n element is probably worthwhile without any other changes. The exhaust is also very suboptimal. After that there isn't too much you can do to magically improve it, other than make sure ignition and cam timing is correct and kjet pressure reg is set up correctly. I'd look at suspension (bilsteins) and engine mounts (land rover) to improving the performance after that.
