drive by wire.
Very excited about this. I have been thinking of this for a while and got serious about it this week. Did a quick test to see if the idea is sound and basically I am going to use my D200 datalogger to run a drive by wire throttle. It will be closed loop targeting a throttle position and have redundancy and the throttle curve will be programmable. I am using the 3d boost control feature to do this. If it works well I might get the new boost controller and design a multi stage throttle setup. Different throttle curves per gear, shift cut and maybe blipping if I can get that figured out.
It also occurred to me that this same basic function could run a vnt turbo or a om606 electronic injection pump. I am using the redundant tps values to create the input. If either is not correct it will go to limp or target 0 degree throttle position. I am also going to have a stop lamp switch or brake pressure override. Have not decided yet. |

If you are running a closed loop control system - what transducer do you use to measure your throttle position?

Electronic diesel pump control has been around, a quick search will show some choices.
Here is someone that is running DIY VNT and diesel boost fuel control. They say that full Bosch VP37 pump control is in the prototyping stage. dmn's playground - Standalone VNT controller As for gas engine throttle control, It is probably going to be more complicated than it appears. The Auto Speed article has many failure / limp modes that would need programming. The most difficult part is likely to be developing and setting up an adequate PID loop / external torque control if you want more than just a " wired " throttle peddle. The above diesel DIY might offer some clues. I haven't done a DBW, but it feels more complicated in the SW department. |

Got the setup working fairly well today in closed loop. Still needs some dialing in. I figured out a few more of the safety protocols. I know have the tps redundant and the reference voltage redundant and a stop lamp or pressure switch shut down. Which could be reprogrammed for a launch control feature. I will have to work on this of course. Just an idea at this time.
I also have been thinking of another strategy to attack this with that I will try to see which is better. It would still have the redundancies but in a different way. It might be a little easier to control but would not have the ability to be manipulated as easily. |

Well, found that to get the response time I wanted I could not get stability. Looked into it some more and found that what is used is a h bridge setup. Bidirectional current and closed loop pwm control. The setup would need a couple more circuits that the datalogger does not have. Also the h bridge provides a motor brake for holding position. Close but not going to happen.

Hey Wipple while you are hooking up drive by wire what controls idle? and does it get dirty,causing hunting between engine cold,and engine normal heat.

I have no idea what you mean. Idle control in your car is the throttle actuator controlled by the engine management computer. The throttle plate can get dirty but I have not seen them hunt.

Came across this today
The Electronic Throttle PID Control System Based on Single Chip Microcomputer It talks about using a TT89C51 microcontroler, LMD18200 to drive the DC motor, PCF8591 AD converter, LCD1602 display It looks to be a Chinese university student paper so the info could be suspect. |

I found a company that makes one but I want additional features to run tq management during shifts and blip the throttle on down shifts. And programmable throttle ramps.
Making one from scratch is not the path I really want. I would switch to a different fuel injection system before going that route. |

I'd think that TQ management during shifts would be better suited to pulling spark advance out of the motor or dropping a few injector pulses. Depending on intake volume post throttle blade, this would have less delay.
