4.7 litre conversion on E430T

Thought you guys may be interested in some work I am having done on my E430 Estate (station wagon).
I bought the car with 100K miles (cheap) it is 1 owner and is in great condition - I use it for doing the 250 mile round trip to the coast where I go windsurfing. When I bought the car I had in the back of my mind, speccing it up, since it didn't cost too much to buy.
I have uprated the brakes using Pagid discs and fast road pads in the rear with Blue track pads in the front. It has AMG 18" wheels which were facrtory fitted.
I have just had it delivered to Vaeth in Germany (www.vaeth.com) to have their V4.7 engine installed. The spec is as follows.
Base engine: brand new 4.3motor with longer throw crank. Overbored about 1mm per pot. High compression pistons giving 11.5:1
Classic cylinder head machine work
sport camshafts
sport catalytic convertors
Reprogrammed ECU
This work is TUV certified @ 330hp and 345lb/ft@2800rpm
I am also having their sport differential which basically was developed with Mercedes to give armoured Merc's (think Russians) more acceleration by altering the gear ratios.
Lastly I am having new bisteins on the front.
Vaeth say the car will do 169mph and 0-62mph in about 6.1seconds with this work.
Should I have just bought an E55 ? who knows, I just love personalised cars

Make sure you send us pics, dyno charts and anything else to help us drool a bit more.

With such a high compression ratior (11.5:1) I hope you're running some 95+ octane fuel!

If the car already has the modular V6 or V8, I think a Kleeman supercharger will give you more bang for the money.

Good luck,

:-) neil

The 4.7 motor will be tuned to run on Euro 98 octane fuel.
Re. the supercharger, you're right, it would give more power, but I don't really like superchargers, they are relatively inefficient and I am not trying to get massive power, just a subtle increase whilst maintaining the V8 refinement with a slightly harder edge. I use this car for long (for me) trips and don't want it to be a 400hp + monster - I have one of those in the garage if I'm in that sort of mood

4.7 update

I picked the car up from Vaeth in Frankfurt and drove it back to Calais in 4 hours (average speed 110 mph) I red lined the car in 5th which with the new gearing is about 170 mph - Amazing how stable these cars are even at these speeds, it felt more stable than my 993tt which always feels a bit twitchy.
Ive put 2000 miles on the new motor and put fresh synthetic oil in it. Using a G-Tech 0-60 takes 6.0 seconds (car weighs about 4010 lbs).
I put the car on a Bosch dyno, getting a curve was quite difficult as it wouldn't hold just one gear, but we found the maximum output. 269 bhp at 5950 rpm at the wheels. This dyno works out correction factors and gave 313bhp at the crank. I don't think this is accuarate as I'm sure the auto box and drive train sap more power than this. Looking at the before dyno curve of Benzmac's CLK55 - it managed a peak of 284bhp before tuning, and there is a dyno plot on Oberklasse's site of an E55 which gave 283 bhp before tuning. If you extrapolate the figures of 283/4 bhp being the equivalent of 354 bhp for an AMG55, then my 4.7 would have about 336 bhp.
What does anyone think, does my logic make sense

I think your figures are correct. Through the automatic, I use the 20% rule of loss.

Just wondering, what exactly is that 400+ hp monster sitting in your garage?

G Tech Figures

Got up early this morning to get some 1/4 mile figures with the G Tech. It was 13degF so these figures are pretty flattering.
average 1/4 over 3 runs 14.22 seconds @104.3 mph average 0-60mph during the runs 5.65seconds. Taking into account that this car has special lower gearing than stock and weighs about 1410 lbs does anyone know what sort of road bhp would these figures equate to ?

Toby-in the 1/4, that's a fairly high trap speed for a 14.2-car must go like hell on the Autoroute, eh?

Beautiful Porsche, BTW
