E55/E430 Sway Bars
Can anyone tell me for sure the diameter of a 2000 E430 Sport sway bar? I am measuring 26mm front, 17mm rear.
I bought a used 2000 E55 AMG suspension and the sway bars measured the exact same as my E430. I thought E55 bars were 29mm front, 20mm rear. Any thoughts?

MikeyE430, while digging through some old Mercedes information I found this information from a 1999 E55 article from www.autoworld.com in February 1999:
"A beefy E55-specific 29-mm (1.14-inch) solid stabilizer bar complesethe setup, compared to the 26-mm (1.0-inch) hollow stabilizer on the E430. On the rear, AMG installs a 20-mm (0.8-inch) solid stabilizer in back, compared to the 17-mm (.67-inch) hollow bar on the E430." So, they are close in size with the key performance difference being solid vs hollow. Good Luck!

E55 Sway Bars
Hey Kevin,
Thanks for the info. I have been educating myself on E55 suspension components. Turns out the "deal" I thought I got from the eBay sale wasn't so hot after all. The guy did send almost new AMG Bilstein shocks and springs, but turns out the sway bars were from his old E420. I found out by measuring the ones on my 2000 E430. The diameters were exactly the same as the ones he sent me. He did give me a $120 credit, so I essentially got 4 shocks and 4 springs shipped for $330. I already have Eibach springs, so I am going to put the E55 springs back on eBay and use the shocks. I also got the part numbers off the bars he sent and ran them by my dealer parts guy-that confirmed that the front bar fits either an E320 or E430. The back bar fits an E430 and all 4Matics. Chalking it up to a lesson learned. You have owned both an E430 and E55. Tell me how much difference these shocks are going to make to my car. Mike

I hated my E430 suspension and always wanted to upgrade it to the E55 specs. As you know the regular setup is just to soft, floaty and unstable at high speed. Mine also bottomed out up front during hard & fast cornering. Believe it or not this morning I had a total of 159 miles, yes only 159, on the E55. So far I like the tighter feel.
