500E brakes on 190E

All,

I'm looking to part with a set of 4 piston 500E/500SL front brake calipers for a 300mm setup. As I understand, these calipers are an excellent upgrade for a 190E. I know someone with an '83 euro 2.3 8 valve that he uses as a track car; what parts would he need to complete this upgrade beyond the calipers & rotors?

Thanks in advance to all respondents

How much are you looking to acquire on such a transaction? I have been considering this upgrade on my 190E and am curious as to what you would be asking.

That is total overkill for front brakes & isn't a direct bolt-on. Try the regular 300E brakes from 1993 Or the 400E brakes. They will bolt-on.
Even the brakes from the 1986-92 300E is a great improvement as that is what the 16V cars use.

Thanks for your valued comments, Doc, but you didn't actually answer the post-what parts are required to do this upgrade? And if one can acquire these calipers cheaper than, say the 300E calipers, then why not? Is there such a thing as "too much" braking capacity? Especially for a track car?

Yes you can overbrake a car IF you anly change the fronts! Also the master cylinder for the 190E 2.3 isn't upto the task of feeding these monster calipers.
Even the 16V front end has larger wheel bearings, different hubs, & even the steering knuckle is different due to the increased braking force.

MB Doc, What about 93 400E front brakes, and 95 SL 600 in the rear, they were direct bolt on, except for cutting the rear brake shields. I was wondering, do you think an upgrade on the master cylinder is in order? I already have an E500 brake booster, though It didn't really accomplish much.
