I have seen stories about people putting 500e and 400e brakes on their 300e. Stu Ritter mentions that his 400e brakes were the best of any car he owned after he put stainless steel lines on the car. For my money, I would put 400e stuff on. There is some question of the 300e master cylinder's capacity to handle the larger 500e calipers. Get the 400e calipers from a wrecker. They are much more common than 500e.

Good luck.

400E brake conversions are also discussed in the archives under the search function, with input and tips from people who have done it to their 300E and 190 MBs. Lots of discussion about what is and isn't doable. The 400E brakes are more than you would ever need on a 300E for almost any situation you can dream up IMHO.

Go to fellow member 2phast's webpage. He has done a conversion of his 190E to 400E brakes and he has a listing of parts. It cost him under $1000 to do it all. Here is his link:-

Killer 190E Brakes

I have 93 400E Brakes up front and 95 SL 600 Brakes in the rear. I would say its the best setup out there. Not many mods for the front, just bend the brake dust shield clear of the larger rotors, and the caliper bolt right up. The rear SL 600 look the exact same size as the front and are huge! I just cut the rear brake shield off myself and bolted the caliper right on.

Bot much problem
