If you don't want to roll those fenders, space the fender bolts out with bushings and longer body bolts like amg/brabus teams did; may be enough to help the rub.

Hey anyone know where to get plate delete filler panel for front of facelift w124 chassis? I've looked and haven't found anything. Thanks in advance for any help.

Just had to chime in and give Nippy kudos on a great looker that should work even better than the factory ride.

Have an 85 CD 300 now with 75k mi and wondering how best to tighten up, freshen up and the lowering issue has been one I go back and forth on having come from Colorado. But you may have convinced me H&R is the way to go.

Good job on inventorying all the parts making it easy to follow and replicate. There's a place in three-point star heaven reserved for folks like you.

Thank you

Nippy- Thanks for sharing this project. Love it. Have done similar projects in the past.

Without trying to insult, you know you don't tighten the suspension until "on the ground", correct?

Noticed that your before and after shots are not taken from the same level/angle.

Car looks great. Would being doing the same mods and choices.

Love it. Wouldn't it be great if there was a quick ratio steering option or rack and pinion conversion available? Then the W124 would be perfect.

This is a great thread, thank you for documenting your project and going into detail for us.

There is: the sportline suspension option came with a quicker ratio steering box. I don't know whether the sportline box is compatible with very early cars, however. There was a change around about 1989.

I have exactly the same car, 86 300E, diamond Blue metallic, factory 5 speed manual,
mine is grey mb tex inside. All stock, I am 2nd owner- owned since 2003. Car was
from Tucson,AZ, so dash was cracked but has been replaced with a new one. I bought
it because I had to keep my streak alive, as I've never owned an automatic trans
car in my 55 years of driving!

One easy way to lower a W124 is to get the thinnest spring pads. There were several thicknesses of the spring pads as discussed in this article.
The handling of my '86 improved greatly when I went from the 23mm to the 8mm ones.

Thanks guys haven't been on this forum in a while. Didnt expect all the nice comments. Anyway, here is an update. I have since changed the wheels for the OEM Mercedes "Evo 1" AKA Sl129 wheels 16x8 ET34 (exact same as the BBS). So its still a nice upgrade from the small 15x7.5 originals.

I actually love the looks of the car now as it really seems to fit better. As a added bonus and I'm not sure why, the car drives better. All I can think is that the outer lips on the BBS are lightweight (thin) aluminum as I could feel all the road in the steering wheel with the BBS. The new wheels deadened that a bit and it seems to track just a bit straighter. Let me know what you think? I had the OEM wheels refinished and they are 100% PERFECT! Loving them!

BBS wheels are now for sale if anybody is interested.

What size are those tires?

Sorry if I missed it; just doing the same wheels on a similar car and I don't know what tire will fit. 245/45 r17 tires rub on an 8" wheel in front - that much I do know.

I did 205/55 fronts and 225/50 rear but I'm lowered. If not lowered would do 225/50 all around
