Mb Doc Please Elaborate

MB DOC, I as well as others appreciate your responses. Could you please elaborate a bit more regarding the Euro and US 300E versions? To be specific, you mentioned that there is a MAP (I don't know what that is, you are talking to a non mechanic who is trying to learn as much about his car as he can). The fuel mixture is enriched in the Euro, as you mentioned---would this be the equivalent of bumping up the fuel mixture like benzboy 1 mentions (black box under the air filter?)?NOw as far as putting in a new exhaust system, which specific system should I put in and how much do you estimate this would cost? I am trying to find out if this would be cost effective. And which specific performance would you recommend? Finally, you mentioned that the Euro has the EZL ignition--I am familiar with this through the threads in this section of the website---would removing the R16 resistor be the exact equivalent as keeping the setting on the EZL in the 0 position? Again I must mention that your answers do a great service to us and are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I didn't say that I would reccomend ANY replacement cam!
The OE cam works very good. The "euro" version has 2deg of extra overlap on the intake side & 3 deg on the exhaust side!
Again 1-1.5(euro cam) hp out of 185 is less than .5% more HP.
There are alot of places to more HP with-out spending $1000. for a new cam & rocker arms.
IF you have a VERY good exhaust shop around that does mandral bends, then spend $300 & have a free flowing exhaust system made.

I wouldn't install a cam unless I first blue-printed the engine. LIKE I said $1000 is a lot of money for 1-2% HP gains. Plus the HP gains are usually due to torque losses at the low end & that is where most M103 engines suffer.
