i was looking back at the beginning of this thread and revisiting the idea of the 5.6 aluminum block with a manual trans and the 4.5 k-jet ignition and injection. i thought that it was alot more of a problem to put the adapter plate on the aluminum block so i didnt really think much of it. i have a 5.6 out of a car now and see that its pretty straight forward. So im just wondering if anyone has converted an aluminum block with early simple k-jet from a 4.5? Would the 4.5 k-jet setup fuel the 5.6 ok? just thinking out loud for now. I read some where the 4.5 distributor has to be fitted with the 5.6 distributor gear because they are at a slightly different angle in the front cover. Anything else that will be an issue when i dont have enough power or kill the original engine?

The 6.9L engines of 1978-79 used the same airflow meter & fuel distributor as the 4.5L.

The distributor gears do have different pitches.

Thanks Frank. That means it should support almost double the power the turd U.S. 4.5 makes. Will the early fuel distributor bolt on the late intake(which I believe has bigger ports) or would I use the early manifold?

Manifold/plenum & throttle body would stay with the 5.6 engine; air guide, airflow meter, and FD from the 4.5.
Above the throttle 4.5 parts, below the throttle 5.6 parts.

Got some work done yesterday on the frame/rocker rust repair. inner and outer rear portion of the "frame " rail. I forgot pics of the old i think but all that below the weld on the inner was basically gone.

The more forward part i'll call the inner rocker was wasted, and internal jack structure needed some thing to attach to.Plus the outer rocker around the jack hole was previously repaired and failed again. i hand hammered and fit the piece from sheet steel, drilled it for plug welds and went to town. needs a little grinding and a seam weld along the top but its out of site and i'm not too worried about aesthetics in there. Getting used to the Lincoln welder i'm using now. The seam on the bottom came out nicely. I need to make a sprayer to stick in there to por15 all of it or its gonna rot away again in a few years.

I got the driver rear rocker and jack hole repaired on the driver rear. All done on this corner except a hole in the bottom of the ribs. Only three more jack holes and a pair of footwells and a lower rear front quarter to slap together!

I used some Rust-Oleum rust reformer paint inside the rockers. I swapped out the sprayer for one with a tube from a silicone spray can and got it in as many angles as possible. I was planning on por15 but it didn't get ordered yet so we'll see how this works I guess.

If this a rust conversion liquid or actual paint?

It's a rust reformer/primer spray paint. I will look at the can again but I'm pretty sure it protects clean metal and reforms rust. The steel I used has a light galvanized coating it seems under the paint. I was mainly concerned with the factory stuff in the rockers that was bad and the welded parts that rust very quickly after the fact. The inner parts of the lap joints are a total crap shoot, I hope some got in there. But ill be pretty happy if I haven't stuffed this thing into a wall or something and I actually have to worry about rust again in a few years.

That would be Galvanneal if it does not look crystallized an old metal garbage can. Galvanneal is great stuff and weldable too. Since the coating is thinner than hot dip galvanize and the coating contains some iron, it doesn't have weather resistance like hot dip but is plenty fine when painted.

Yeah, I'm not certain but the steel is from a fire system or alarm control box. Ones I wire wheeled the red paint off it still didn't appear to be plain steel so that's what I assumed. It was kind or spotty similar to regular galvanized trash cans and swingset type steel.

Now that I think about it, I believe the paint came off in large pieces and the inner was grey when I beat it with a big hammer forming it. It seems really workable considering how thick it is so that annealing process would explain that. I'll have to put some extra scraps with and without welds aside to see how it reacts to atmosphere.
