Question Performance Products ASR Disable Switch

I really want to be able to totally turn off the friggin' ASR... But also have it availible for day to day, so I want to try the Performance Products ASR Dsable Switch but have heard bad stories about the poor instructions included with it. Does anyone have experience with this??? My BMW has a real "off" switch and it's the only way to fly, why doesn't M-B learn to do this??? Anyway enough of my rant. As alway help is greatly appreicated...

ASR Switch

I had a bad experience with the Performance Products ASR defeat switch. Poor instructions that did not match the wiring in my E-500. Had a top notch mechanic who works on all the E-500's in the Seattle area..he even talked with their tech dpt. No luck. I have to give credit to Perofrmance Products as they gave me a full refund,,although I was out the labor costs. Have since had the Renn-tech ASR defeat installed which was a piece of cake & works great. Highly recommend you spend the extra money for the Renntech version. Good Luck

Agreed--

The instructions were useless. We got one for a customer and could not make heads or tails; did finally get it to work with a little help from a friend. It also uses a cheesy looking duplicate defroster switch, and the customer ended up ordering a new wood panel for his center console to avoid the drilling/cutting. If it were my car, I'd spend the money on something else anyway. Didn't impress me. The RennTech swaybar or first gear start would do you much more good, and the swaybar costs about the same. Hope this helps.

I have one, had it for over a year now, works great, went in easy, maybe they have changed the design recently. I just put the switch in the snowchains switch slot, no drilling needed.

Hey David--

Do you find your Remus muffler to do you any good? I really don't expect much in the way of performance gains, just would like the car a bit more gruff. Thanks for your opinion...
BTW, I'm guessing you don't have much need for that ASR defeat switch with those 40 inch rear tires (as noted in your signature)!? the ride quality is surely awful with the 17 aspect ratio....(grins)...

You would think so, but at anything other than idle if I go to full throttle in 1st gear, she will turn the 275s to smoke.

The ASR switch is an absolute godsend on the track, where you can actually get some yaw angle going with the ASR off.

The Remus is a good muffler, sticks out a bit at the back though, makes the exhaust tone a deeper rumble. Works very well with the centre "X" pipe and other free flowing mods I have done. My car spools up very quickly now.

Ride quality is not too bad, considering the low profiles, however I do tend to swerve more frequently to avoid road "irregularities" than a Bosnian taxi-cab driver.

David- I've considered doing a "X-pipe".

Tell us more.

Before the cats? After? Did you remove the center muffler?

Can you post pictures?

Thanks in advance,

What I can't understand is doing an X-pipe AFTER the cats, which go to ONE resonator or for those of you who remove the resonator/center-muffler, to the one muffler in the rear.

My understanding is that the X-pipe/Y-pipe helps in scavenging, so since there are two cats, wouldn't it be more beneficial to do an X-pipe or Y-Pipe to the dual cats?

Besides if you do an X-pipe after the cats, isn't the flow going to either a single center-muffler (resonator) OR single rear muffler? Plus it's past the first pressure point (CAT) so no real scavenging effect. A must read is here: http://e30m3performance.com/installs/installs-2/exhaust/exh4.htm
