Wiring Harness - Where to buy?

All,

I'm thinking I might replace my wiring harness on the E500 - gonna check it this weekend to see what shape its in.

Someone had posted that they bought one for just under $300 but I searched for the post to no avail. Who has them for the least $$$ (assuming they're all the same)?

I purchased mine from Tom Hanson @ Caliber Motors ( they have a website) . I do not have the number handy but I believe it was $240-270 dollars.

Side request - I have been playing with the idea of replicating the Wiring Harness in low numbers, but......

I need a donor Harness or two for reference purposes.

If someone is planning on replacing their harness, a request on my behalf to keep the old harness would be very helpful indeed.

Roas , You are one week late. I just replaced mine and clipped the ends for my scrap parts box then through away rest sorry.
The only part that seemed difficult might be getting the connector just before the firewall.

Thanks Alan, I just emailed them a price request. I took a look at my harness yesterday and I did see some cracked insulation on the wires. No bare wires showing although I didn't cut open the bundles (didn't dare do too much wiggling on the wires). Car still runs great but I think I will replace.

I'm also going to pull the injectors and have them cleaned and balanced and I need to replace the hose coming off the back of the passenger valve cover - it has a dirty oil film at the end and in the middle and its pretty hard. It looks like it goes down under the air mass sensor and butterfly. Does anyone know if its easy to get to the other end? Hopefully just pull out a few things.

Randy

Randall,

My independent mechanic told me that hose change is a quick and easy DIY fix. Mine actually needs a new hose as well for the same reason.

On a separate note, please let me know what kind of pricing you get for the wiring harness and if you install it yourself let me know how difficult it is. I'm sure mine will need it soon enough considering the heat generated under the hood. I've already started replacing other rubber components that look a bit hardened just for maintenance sake.

Placo1 , The install for the harness is very easy. MB even has the wires for the injectors permananetly marked. The only diffculty was reinstalling the hard palstic piece which seals the harness in palce at the firewall. Mine was obviously removed before anddamaged when being installed. It just took 3 hands and a little finaggling. Also be sure to speak with Tom Hanson at Caliber regarding the harness. He is a great guy and has helped me tremendously as I get my 500E back on the road.

Beastie,

Thank you for posting the installation explanation! It sounds relatively easy and I think I'll try it myself before year end. I'll definitely have to take a look at the firewall mount to insure that I can do it.

By the way, I do have a question about this wiring harness. Is this the same harness that the dealership charges over $1k to replace?

Thanks again.
