Help with 190E 2.6 engine upgrade...
I want to upgrade a '92 190E 2.6 to make it faster. I want to drop a 300CE engine into it but I'm having trouble finding one to even begin with the process. I was wondering if any one knew where I could get a 300CE engine and what irt would cost me.
Also, if I end up not doing the 300CE engine thing, what would make my 2.6 much much faster besides NOS. I was maybe thinking of turbo charging it ir maybe super charging it. But I also don't know where to get these. Do you have any suggestions on as to what I should do to make it much much faster than it is (engine wise)? Maybe with in the power of 250hp + Tell me what you think! Rolex190E....... |

The 300CE and 300SL engines are the ones you want to use. a 2.3-16v 5-speed manual tranny and friveline parts are also prime candidates since the stock 2.6 tranny is very small.
Trust me I had everything lines up, a 300SL engine for $2500, just rebuilt. Normally they go for about $4-5 sicne they are rare, 24v, and 3.0 using the KEH with a higer 6700 rpm then the 300CEs 6400. The transmission Mike Skees used on his conversion was a tranny form a 300E 5-speed manual. he had his enlarged to a 3.2 pushing about 250hp. In the Maryland area: Mike, Rick from RC-Imports, and Potomac German Auto, as well as Dr. CArlos Piad who stuffed a C36 in his 190E 2.3-16v, are very well renound. Then you have MBDoc and Benzmac down south a little further. Expect to spend as much in labor as the engine. Which is why I stopped doing it, mid way of purchasing the entire driveline. If I find a steal price on the 300SL engine, I might continue.

Hey, thanks for the quick replies. I understand what you are all saying, it is some good advice might I add.
So the 300SL engines pack a bigger punch in them than the 300CE engine, also the rev limiter on the 300SL is greater than a 300CEs. I will look into this, however...... I do feel the the 2.3 16V engine is also hard to find. Not only that, there are much much more eletrical little gadgets that would make the swap a little more difficult (disconnecting, reconecting, configuring, so I hear). Do the 300SL engine have the same bolt patterns as a 2.6? I have another idea too....... ;-) My friend tells me about this Euro cylinder head that increases a 2.6 to over 100hp, I don't know if that is true, but it is definately some thing to look into. With that I would have to replace" -Timing chain -Chain tensioner -Chain guide I'd also have to get (most likely) brand new gaskets for the upper body of the engine. I think I might wanna stick with the 2.6 engine then fix the engine up so it has no problems for now. Then I will put a turbo charge on it with a custom exhaust. Also, I MIGHT bore it out to 3.2, but we'll see. how does that plan sound? I asume it will be around 300hp+ with this just these things.... Any other suggestions that? I really appreciate this help. Oh yeah, one more thinkg, I'm not th richest man on the planet, lol, so I can't afford a lot of modifications. I'm trying to see what I can do for as little cost as I can (little cost? Yeah right). Again I thank you for your help!! Sean |

There is no head that is going to net you 100 hp, maybe 20 max if its polished/ported with a high performance cam.
As for stroking the motor, your going to be looking anywhere between 2500 and 5000 to do that. It depends upon if you purchase a stroker kit or make your own crank. Its not cheap. |

If you get another engine...
What about the engine you have now. Wouldn't that be worth something that would offset the cost?

Oh yeah, by the way.....
Is there some one who wants to buy a 2001 Rolex Submariner model "Pxxx xxx". I recieves it for a birthday gift from my uncle last year in November when I thought I was a high roller. Then I soon found out that I would need to have the whole works to be a high roller. So I need to get rid of it so I can put the money into the car. Comes with original double box set, Rolex translator booklet, Rolex Submariner booklet, Rolex Date-Just booklet, red holographic Rolex chronometer hang tag, green Swimpruf hang tag, Rolex calendar, Submariner anchor, Rolex polishing cloth, green Rolex card holder, 3 extra links, Rolex pillow with matching wrap, and of course..... The watch. Thanks, I appriciate it. Pictures are aviliable for serious buyers. It is worth over $3,200 - but for you $1,800!! (no one wants a watch for $3,200) If you want it or some one you know might want it, go ahead and e-mail me: cky2ksk8rguy@aol.com or Rolexman1184@yahoo.com |
