S/E switch

Earlier upshifts and more lazy downshifts in the "E" mode.

Works via vacuum switchover valve switch when active, applies vacuum to the throttle valve cable at the side of the transmission.

I have REALLY tried to observe any difference between the S and E setting. There is none!

What's the default setting? (if f.ex. the valve switch is defect)

Default setting is S (standard) mode. Common fault is bad contacts in the switch. You can check this out by measuring voltage at the vacuum solenoid. You don't say which model you have, on a 124 the solenoid is on the firewall on the left side of the car, it has a red vacuum line going to the transmission.

On some models (and this varies according to year, engine and transmission type) the Economy mode also prevents 1st gear starting.

Can this be retro-fitted to a C36 that doesn't have the "B-switch"?
